Bitter pill to swallow for Riversmead Warriors

IT was a game that resembled a classic Test match of old. Very few points, ferocious attack and astonishing defence.

In the end the Riversmead Warriors lost 5-3 to the visiting Jaguars at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground.

It was a bitter pill to swallow and it didn’t help matters that star player Chris Mitchell was a non-starter.

Best he could do was perform ‘water boy’ duties due to a roastie on his arm that had become infected.

“He is a game breaker and it’s always tough to lose a player like him,” said coach Christo Henderson.

While the defence was immense, the scrums were solid and the lineouts were pretty good too.

Overall there was a great team spirit, despite the narrow loss.

Tienie Viljoen kicked the Warriors’ lone penalty, giving the Warriors a sniff at the end after Jaguars had scored first.

“They played their hearts out, and they can keep their heads up,” said Christo.

Next up is an away game against the Rhinos in Empangeni, for both the firsts and the seconds.

The U20s plays against Rovers in Durban this Friday.
