Hibiscus Coast marathon goes off ‘ultra’ well
Many of the runners congratulated the organisers for an unbelievably well organised race.
IT was a chance the South Coast Striders took and it paid off very well. Normally, when a club hosts a road race it is held on a Saturday or Sunday.
The reasons are obvious but because of the crammed calendar and the need to make the race a final Comrades qualifier, the options for a weekend race became difficult.

But thanks to the very popular Africa Bike Week, and the start of an almost full week of time off due to public holidays, it was held last Wednesday.
The Hibiscus Coast Ultra Marathon, for its second year running, saw a growth in the field of almost 40 percent.

It was surprising though that only 90 of the field of runners present complained about the tough course, which included the hill that begins near the Pistol’s Saloon in Ramsgate, and finishes at the airport!

Mind you, after the complaining it was said that it was a perfect preparation for Comrades.

Congratulations to all the winners of the different categories, as well as to everyone who took part.

I would like to mention that the Striders excelled in their duties for the day and the talk of the day was the display shown by our traffic and police department.

You guys showed the rest of the country how a police service coordinates road closures without a hint of disruption. Absolutely fantastic… thank you.
To all the sponsors and Kim Jones, the race convener, a huge thank you for helping us put on a fantastic event.
