Wayne’s World: Comrades looms large

Keep fit and remember that every stride counts.

WELL time surely flies and we are just 17 days away from the start of the Comrades Marathon 2016.

For now we will continue to introduce you to some more of this year’s local runners.

Mthokozisi Cele (30) ran his first Comrades at the age of 25 and has three Bill Rowan medals and two bronze medals. His fastest Comrades time is 8:27:24.

Maxwell Mpiti (54) boasts 17 medals and completed his first Comrades in 1993 at the age of 31, earning his first silver medal in a time of 6:38:05. All in all he has three silvers, nine Bill Rowans and five bronze medals.

Gary Lennon (57) ran his first Comrades in 1990 at age 31 and has nine medals, including five bronzes and four Vic Claphams, his fastest being 9:06:50.

Arthur Flascus (63) completed his first Comrades in 1990 at the age age of 37. His fastest was 7:11:36. He has four silvers, two Bill Rowans, two bronzes and one Vic Clapham.

Goodman Nqayi (27) ran his first Comrades in 2012. His fastest time is 7:18:27 and he has one silver and three Bill Rowan medals.

Swalleh Ameer (66) completed his first Comrades in 1996. His fastest time is 10:17:54 and he has 18 medals, 13 bronze and five Vic Claphams.

Mohammed Naroth (62) has one bronze and seven Vic Clapham medals. He completed his first Comrades in 2000 and his fastest is 11:00:48.

The following runners are all running their second Comrades Marathons.

Gary Dunstone (30) has a Vic Clapham medal and his time was 11:36:07.

Sally-Anne Anthony (44) has a Vic Clapham medal. Her time was 11:04:23.

Bernardt Keudel-Schaffer (33) also has a Vic Clapham medal, in a time of 11:49:35.

Liezel Dudley (42) has a bronze medal in a time of in a time of 10:35:57.

We have two more novices attempting their first Comrades, namely Kerry Farren (40) and Rakhesh Ramdhun (41).
