Golfers raise funds for Pro Deo charity
The group cares for sick, elderly people who cannot afford medical care.
THE Pro Deo golf day at Margate Country Club last Saturday was well supported.
Money raised will go towards the Pro Deo Care Group which cares for the sick elderly people of the lower South Coast who cannot afford medical care. Winners were Eddie Davies and John Crewe on 48 points.
Chairman of the Pro Deo group, Eloise van Niekerk, said that with the deterioration in medical care and pension funds, home care as an organised activity had become a necessity.
“Unfortunately funds are limited and it is only dedicated people, such as our caring golfers, who make it possible for the volunteers to supply the necessary care that the elderly and sick require,” she said.
Runners-up were Johan Erasmus and Dries Barkhuizen on 47 points, counting out Sanele Nyangule and Luvuyo Tshangase.
Fourth place went to Emmanuel Mseluku and AB Dumo on 46 points, counting out Sandile Khuzwayo and Kallin Nel.
Rob Weyer and Graeme Massam were next on 45 points.

Meanwhile, Sandi Johnston and Lexley Lewis won the Connie Day betterball at Margate Country Club last Tuesday on 48 points.
In second place on 45 points were Shannon Gottlieb and Connie McArthur on 45 points, three ahead of Margaret Ford and Hilary Hendry.
The Wobblers’ alliance last Wednesday saw first place go to Brian Jeffreys, Hans Beilhartz and John Gibson on 84 points.
Two adrift were Dave Morrison, Rob McGill and Dieter Jucker, as well as Dave Parsons, Cali Nel and Otto Mutschler.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Nico van Vuuren, Wimpy Jordaan and Louis Kuhn on 72 points.
Thursday’s comp was won on 39 points by Louw van Niekerk, one ahead of Joe ‘Flying Fish’ Espach, as well as Mike Bond.
