Greenkeepers find their range
ELLIOT Nqoko from Southbroom won the greenkeepers’/greenrangers’ competition for the second year in a row, partnered with Hans Wijtman.
The tournament was held at The Bell. His opponents complained that he had remote controlled bowls because he was so consistently on the jack.
The duo from Umtentweni, Dumisani Madlala and Siyabonga Gumede were the runners-up.
The Gumede family was well represented from three clubs in the district, namely Siyabonga from Umtentweni, Cosmos from Southport and Christian from Hibberdene.
Dumisani and Cosmos have already been awarded KBA colours as members of the men’s B side for Inter-Districts.
Kingfisher’s development convener, Tyrone Ferguson, has approached many schools to start a ‘Schools League’ which will hopefully take off in the near future.
BANNERS REST
THE SuperSpar Port Edward two-bowl mixed trips was won by Rod and Mary Phelps with Peter Bennett.
Runners-up were Maureen La Grange, Dave Hume and Ally Weir.
Second session went to Steve Rennie, Hazel Delaney and Amorie Schoëler, and the 50/50 board to Val Smith.
Winners of the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs were Steve Rennie and Andreas van der Linde.
In second place were Glen Allen and Peter Ziervögel. 50/50 board went to Joe Ashworth.
Indulgence Beauty Salon and Peter Bennett open pairs is on Wednesday, May 25.
HIBBERDENE
THE nominated mixed trips played last Friday was won by Arthur and Miriam Seager, with Bubbles Bezuidenhout.
Second place went to Ollie and Marie Coetzer, with Jan Venter.
Session to Bruce Hoyer, with Callie and Estelle Quinn. Thanks to Hibberdene Pharmacy for sponsorship.
Next competition is this Friday, sponsored by Warwick.
Thanks to Ockert Kilian from Hibberdene Upholsterers for repairing the handle of the umpires’ case.
It’s the second time he has repaired something for the club for free.

THERE was an excellent turnout of 35 players at the Village last Sunday.

First prize went to Gay Gravell, Ann Waugh and Mike Ryan, followed by Graham Fisher, Jimmy Ronald and Norma Ronald.
Third place to Kobus Faber, Alison Dinning and Hans van der Walt.
New committee is president Kobus Faber, vice-president Bill Brown, secretary Sheena Absalom, treasurer Christine Faber, competition secretary Austin Knollys, PRO Hans van der Walt.
PORT EDWARD
CLUB competitions are in full swing and, with the very busy bowling calendar, member are reminded to keep an eye on the notice board for dates and times.
Entries for the SuperSpar Tri-Club close on June 7.
The Kinsey Kingfisher Motors Inter-Club Trophy takes part at Banners Rest on May 27.
PORT SHEPSTONE
MEMBERS mourn the recent death of Glen Douglass. The funeral was held at St Katharine’s Church followed by a wake at the club.
Mixed fours winners were Eddie Fann, Pat Maggs, John Nadauld and Howard Frizelle.
Runners-up were Kobie Stander, Dora Vosloo, Caroline Harris and Winnie Hess.
Sunday’s Restoration Day was celebrated and a fun game of bowls was held in the morning.
Winner was Jenny Rawlins followed by John Bloch.
RIVERSIDE
THE Food Lover’s Market mixed 2-4-2 is on Friday, May 27.

JANE Massam and Rentie Stevens won the South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 from Eric Grierson and Anette Sutherland.
Jacques Snyman and Sheenagh Dempster took the second session prize.
The long anticipated return ‘cricket match’ against Tweni was exceptionally enjoyable and well organised.
This made the resounding defeat from the home side slightly more palatable.
Southport had to lick their wounds and accept defeat showing the true sportsmanship that exists between these two clubs.
The Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips will be played today (19th) and the Dr D’Arcy men’s trips next Thursday (26th).
THE BELL
JAXX/Venture Inn Bottle Store winners were Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Steve O’Moore/Keiron Dacey.
In second place were Brian Porteous, Maureen Vorster and Arthur Lopes. Session prize went to Peet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie and Pat Maggs.
Captain’s Anchor mixed fours was won by Peet van Rooyen, Louw Vermeulen, Susan Fourie and Charmaine van Deventer.
In second place were Leon Sanders, Sandy Penny, Stan Penny and Colin Glazebrook. The session prize was won by Daphne Sapsford, Mada Lindeque, Val Boshoff and Charles Murgatroyd.

TWENI
THE Schooners mixed trips was won by Keith Mills, Alan Wallace and Annette Strydom, from Jan Snyman, Tony Aveyard and Nellie Davies.
Session winners were Peter Browning, Astrid Jackson and Dumisani Madlala.
Tweni gained revenge on Southport in the return ‘cricket’ game last Sunday, winning the inaugural Graham Trophy.
Individual cricketer was Peter Clark, with a contribution of 39 runs and four wickets. Great camaraderie was shared by all.
VILLAGE
WINNERS of the Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips were Dave Garland, Ivan Hosken and Clive Bignell followed by Alan Tyers, Bill Parfitt and Manny Piquito.
Sessions went to Ron Canning, Reg Sanders and Rennie Geyer and to Dereck Schorn, Hugh Holland and Mike Ryan on a drawn card. Gary Hess won the 50/50.
Hibiscus Insurance and Financial Brokers mixed trips was won by Alan Tyers, Denzil Massyn and Denise Palframan followed by Barry Christie, Norman Isherwood and Aileen Ward.
