‘Building’ fun in the sun
The golf might not have been up to scratch, but the 'party' was certainly a blast at the Master Builders' Association's annual golf day at the Wild Coast on Friday.
MASTER Builders’ Association (MBA) members work hard, but boy! They certainly know how to play hard as well when they can find the odd day off.
The association hosted its annual golf day at the Wild Coast Sun last Friday which really ‘cemented’ its reputation as one of the most fun and social events on the South Coast sporting calendar.
The Herald is really proud to be one of the ‘platinum’ sponsors, as the chief organiser, the MBA’s Hans Stols referred to us. In an area which is often plagued by ‘fly-by-nights’, the MBA’s excellent reputation certainly gives its members more street ‘creds’.
Winners on the day were teams from Allplant (1st), Formscaff (2nd), JV Construction (3rd) and P&G Construction (4th).
However, with many of the players more adept with tools-of-their-trade than golf clubs, it was more about fun on a brilliantly calm, sunny day.
Of course, there was a little ‘inspiration’ from liquid refreshments supplied by sponsors who manned seconding tables at virtually every second hole all around the course. This competition-within-a-competition being far the more fiercely contested than the golf. The ‘tee-box table’ floating trophy is sponsored by Thys Blom’s Plant Consultants.
This year even saw a sheep-on-a-spit and a mechanical bull at two tee-boxes.
Execudec’s Craig Charlton cut his foot badly when he was ‘bucked’ by the bull. However, his wife, Trish and team gave him his revenge with their fiery Mexican mince on their hole. (No further detail was available at the time of going to print.)
In spite of the efforts by all the tables, the field voted for the young bikini girls who manned the P&G Construction/Leaf Technologies table on the dreaded 13th par three ‘waterfall’ hole.
Many balls… and players landed in the ‘drink’.
Well done to Hans, Thys, their helpers and all the sponsors who donated prizes that went right down to the worst playing fourball.
A novel end to the day was a highly humorous auction of all uncollected prizes by Margate auctioneer Wayne Wridgway.
