A win at last for the Riversmead Warriors

RIVERSMEAD South Coast Warriors finally broke their duck for the premier league rugby season with a 30-27 win over Durban Crusaders in Durban last weekend.

It was long-awaited and came as a big relief and timely boost for the team.

“The boys played outstanding rugby for the full 80 minutes, it was a great team effort,” said coach Christo Henderson.

In some of the previous games, things didn’t always go their way, but last Friday was different.

Scrums were solid and the players were impressive at the breakdowns, denying Crusaders the chance to gather any momentum.

Tries were scored by flyhaf Ra-Iq Polker, lock Jonty Fortuin, eighthman Juan van den Berg and outside centre Tienie Viljoen, who also kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Emileo Siebritz made his first team debut on the wing and Sean Xulu made his debut on the flank.

There were some injury concerns after the match, namely Jaques Coetzee (rib), Bradley Pulsen (hamstring) and Emileo Siebritz (concussion).

Next game is against UKZN Impi at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground this Saturday, May 28.

First team match kicks off at 3.30pm.

Come and support the players. There will be jumping castles for the children, and lots of fun for the whole family.

Feel free to braai next to the field while watching the game.

The club has started a ‘rugby house’ which hosts some of the talented young players in order to strengthen the depth at the Warriors.

“So far it has done wonders and we thank the various companies who have contributed,” said Henderson.
