Double delight for golfer Lizzie at Sheppie

LIZZIE Currie added another title to her at Port Shepstone Country Club when she beat Kim Strauss 5/4 to win the matchplay recently.
She successfully defended her title, and also ‘did the double’ as she also won the strokeplay earlier this year.
Ewald Ziervogel and Roly Shaw won the comp last Wednesday on 52 points, nine ahead of Daryl D’arcy and Ryan Ringo.
The business day last Friday, sponsored by Qualchem, was won by John Beekman, Jesse Verster, Tony Fairbairn and Peter Stoppel on 98 points.

Runners-up on 95 points were Dries Barkhuizen, Denis Bolt, Fred van Zyl and Johan Erasmus, two ahead of Rob Piers, Jimmy Parsons, Charles and Jenny Hulley.
Saturday’s Tweni Crime Watch day, which included three mystery holes, was won by Phiwa Mkhoma and Koko Zithumane.
In second place were Kwanele Mkhoma and Emmanuel Godongwane, with Lizzie Currie and Allan Clark in third spot.
Women’s section was by Yzelle Greyling and Annie Stoppel.
The Harcourts Charity Double Up day in aid of South Coast Hospice takes place tomorrow (June 16). There are still a few spots available.

Fishermen come to Southbroom
FESTIVITIES are always at a high when the Tuna Angling Club golf day takes place at Southbroom Golf Club.
This was certainly the case last Sunday, when golfers who have one or two games a year emerge from the woodwork. It’s always fun.
The format was scramble drive alliance and the winners on 118 points were Dave Higgins, Shaun Nathanson, Lee Maree and Ettiene du Plessis.
One point behind were Jaco van der Wal and his mates Zandré, Brendon and Roy (surnames not known).
In third on 113 points were Gavin McCann, Grant Morris, Kevin Feinberg and Anthony Levitan.
On other news Gavin Sole won the matchplay champs again (fifth time in a row), beating Mike ‘Gamesmanship’ Anthony 1-up.
Ever competitive, ‘Manthony’ was sure to remind the Big Fish about the two he once hit out of bounds to lose a club champs, and the bunker shot he once teethed onto the road when having the chance to shoot 60!
The regular Wednesday comp was won by Geraldine Treherne and Sandy Luus on 46 points, by five from Jean Corfe and Michelle Davies.
Rory O’Donnell and George Haswell won the men’s comp on 50 points, counting out Roger Hissey and Roy Deakins.
Saturday’s alliance (nine holes due to weather) was won by Val Volck, Jean Corfe, Mari Fielden and Jean Purtell on 44 points.
Runners-up were Della Kempthorne, Janet Humphrey, Michelle Davies and Rene Matthew on 40 points.
In the Captain’s vs Vice-Captain’s comp, best score on the day was 46 points, returned by Art Germs and George Haswell.
Next best were Garth Strong and Heiner Hedtrich on 44 points, with Malcolm Greenland and Colin McKay on 43 points, as were Peter and Graham Volck.
Derrik Matthew’s captain’s team defeated Gary Purtell’s team 8-2.
The Vikings Rugby Academy Golf Day will take place at the club on Thursday, June 30.

Perfect fluke for Robby at Margate CC
ROBBY Cumming aced the 4th hole at Margate Country Club to provide one of the highlights of the Southcity Christian College golf day last Friday.
The format was a scramble drive alliance and the day was won by Mike Anthony, Richard Mills, Wayne Molyneaux and Brandon Saunders on 114 points.
Runners-up were Mark Smith, Dennis Knight, Martyn Naltegaal and Roelf Craig on 111 points, followed by Anton Kohrmann, Juan Dixon, Shaun Nathanson and Dave Higgins on 107 points.
Robby and his team eventually finished in fourth place. Next on his list is a hole-in-one at the Wild Coast’s 4th hole, as he already has one at Southbroom’s 4th!
Wondra Bothma won the women’s comp last Tuesday on +3, one ahead of Beryl Williamson, and two ahead of Jane Davies.
The Wednesday Wobblers’ comp saw Richard Plaskitt, Freddie Boshoff and Derek Egerton score 87 points to edge in ahead of Jan Richter, Dieter Jucker and Rob Brien on 86 points.
In third were Joan Gibson, Piet Pretorius and Hanz Beilhartz on 82 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Eddie Gommersall, Nico van Vuuren and Konnie Konrad on 71 points.
Thursday’s comp was won by Flip Fourie on 42 points, by one from John Webster and John Ford.
Five pairs scored 45 points at the Margate Round Table golf day last Saturday.
After all the countouts had been done, the winners were Johan Wentzel and Anton Kohrmann, followed by Margaret Ford and Hilary Hendry, Robert Mavundla and Wonderboy Nxumalo, David Jenkinson and Paul Valentine, and Louw van Niekerk and Hennie Botha.
The mixed competition, Topham Trophy, played as a greensomes medal last Sunday, saw Thys Bothma and Wondra Bothma win on nett 68, by three from Angus and Una McLachlan, as well as Graeme Massam and Maureen Ogilvie.

Anne shines in the Boland
EIGHT from the South Coast teed it up in the Senior Women’s Golf national champs, held in Boland this year a little while ago.
They produced some sparkling golf, none more than Anne Baldrey who won the nett in the 60 to 69 year old section.
KwaZulu-Natal walked away with the overall winners prize,
The locals women who made the trip were Augustine D’Ewes, Beryl Olden, Shirley Barclay, Linda Rybicki (captain), Helga Wepener, Marie Robinson, Rina Rito and Anne Baldrey.
The women thanked their sponsors, Gerrit Steyn from Status Panel Beaters, and Meyer du Toit from San Lameer Country Club.
