From the fairways: Harcourts day sees R20 000 raised for South Coast Hospice

Golfers tee it up for hospice
KEAGAN Ray and Roger Eady produced some sparkling golf to win the Harcourts Double Up golf day, in aid of South Coast Hospice, at Port Shepstone Country Club last Thursday.
They carded 47 points and got lucky on the countout, edging out Jesse Verster and Trevor Green. Third went to Gerhard Labuschagne and Nick Wattrus on 46 points.
A total of R20 000 was raised on the day.
The previous Wednesday’s comp was won by Jackie van Heerden on 43 points, from Paul Geoffery and Ken Marshall who both had 40 points.
Saturday’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge winners were Darryl D’Arcy (A div 39 points), Brian O’Neill (B div 40 points) and Lynton Cousins (C div 42 points).
Respective runners-up were Greg Hornby (36 points), Peppy Govender (40 points) and Terry Kotze (39 points).
Winners in the women’s comp were Anne Baldrey (A div 38 points), Debi Stewart (B div 41 points) and Marisa Stretch (C div on 37 points).
Runners-up were Yzelle Greyling (36 points), Cecelia Verster (B div 38 points) and Barbara Rousseau (C div 34 points).

Superb support for women’s Open Day
A TOTAL of 80 women played in the women’s Open Day at Margate Country Club last Tuesday.
It was won by Grace Fourie and Hannetjie Pretorius on 51 points, from Jane Davies and Julie Gerber on 46 points.
In third place were Della Kempthorn and Karen Bridgeford on 45 points.
The Wobblers’ alliance last Wednesday was won on 90 points by James Tutt, Jim Finn and Hans Beilhartz.
Runners-up were Robert Henning, Dieter Jucker and John Gibson on 88 points, counting out Peter Rogers, Derek Egerton and Rob Brien.
Thursday’s comp saw Derek Egerton win on 42 points, one ahead of Louw van Niekerk and Neil Townsend.
Monthly medal was played last Saturday.
Winners in their various divisions were Sbu Ntozakhe (A div on nett 67), Jim Finn (B div on nett 65) and Dave Morrison (C div on nett 68).
Runners-up were Elvis Khawula (A div on nett 73), Thys Bothma (B div on nett 73) and Arthur Ehlert (C div on nett 69).
The women’s comp was won by Anita Scheepers and Evelyn Burls on 49 points, two ahead of Barbara Jackson and Alicia Hilt, as well as Maureen Ogilvie and Hannetjie Pretorius.
Time for a scramble at Southbroom
THE popular women’s Ann’s Scramble at Southbroom Golf Club last Wednesday was won by Mary Carolan, Sandy Fitzgerald and Jean Purtell on nett 52.67.
In second place were Geraldine Treherne, Lorraine Cook and Helen Proctor on nett 56.
The men’s alliance saw first prize go to Garth Strong, John Lison, Bruce and Derrik Matthew on 96 points.
Friday’s Pharaoh Construction business day saw Kevin Murray, Eugene Orsmond, Johan Greeff and Paul Coetzee clinch first prize after scoring 95 points.
Runners-up were Dries Barkhuizen, Johan Erasmus, Nic van Deventer and Gavin Sole on the same score.
Saturday’s women’s comp saw Sandy Fitzgerald and Candida Amm win on 44 points, by three from Mary Carolan and Karin Asbock.
Peter Volck and Wally Robinson won the men’s comp on 52 points, by one from Graham Volck and Chris Miller.
