THE Vikings Christian Rugby Academy has announced its disenfranchisement with The Sharks organisation and the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union.
Differing philosophies pertaining to academy students and their club involvement led to the decision made by the KZNRU to disassociate with the Vikings.
This development frees the Vikings Academy students to play, not only for The Sharks, but all clubs and professional teams throughout South Africa, and the world.
The Vikings Christian Rugby Academy is international, pulling players and sponsors from all over the world.
Therefore, it feels it would be non-indicative of the demographics of the Academy itself to bind Vikings athletes solely to the Southern KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union and The Sharks.
Currently, the Vikings have one 2016 year student playing for the Valke/Falcons and one for the Griquas.
These opportunities are reason enough for Vikings to broaden its horizons and offer athletes what they sign up for: an opportunity to be trained professionally in order to ultimately play professional rugby, both in South Africa and abroad.
The Academy will move forward with staunch adherence to the Christian ethos and framework of its origins, looking forward to the future and opportunities that may arise.
The Academy thanked The Sharks and the KZNRU for the roles they played thus far.
