From the bowling greens: Chilly winter weather can’t trip up bowlers

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION
INTREPID bowlers faced wind and rain last weekend to reach the finals of the Kingfisher Bowling Association’s men’s and women’s trips held at Southport on Monday.
Although the wind was still causing some problems there was good bowls all round.
The winners of the men’s trips were The Bell’s Barry Delvin, Jimmy Holtshausen and Rassie Erasmus.
Runners-up were Eddie Fann, Mark Smith and Howard Frizelle from Port Shepstone.
Third and fourth went to AMBC’s Bob Elliot, Richard van Waltsleven and Henry Hampson and The Bell’s Peet van Rooyen, Wayne Muller and Geoff Barbour respectively.
The women’s trips winners were Liesje de Rosner, Helen Turk and Maureen Lancaster from AMBC.
Runners-up were Margate CC’s Kobie Stander, Gae Gravell and Dora Vosloo.
Third place went to Umtentweni’s Sheenagh Dempster, Astrid Jackson and Annette Suther and fourth went to Marie Coetzer, Miriam Seager and Alida Munnik from Hibberdene.
Thanks to all the clubs’ greenkeepers, catering women and bar men for their hard work over the weekend, as well as to the technical officials and of course, spectators.
Welcome home to Eddie Fann and Gilly Thiel from Port Shepstone who flew the Kingfisher flag high at the recent BSA Mixed Pairs and came so close to going through to the semis.

BANNERS REST
WINNERS of the Indulgence Beauty Salon and Peter Bennett open pairs were Dave Hume and John Keppler.
Placed second were Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells and third Glen Allen and Dice Graaff. The 50/50 board went to Rob Lyle.
The GP Security mixed pairs was won by Steve and Jenny Rennie.
Runners-up were Peter Bennett and Amorie Schoëler and second session winners Jimmy and Ann McAllister.
The 50/50 board was won by Hazel Delaney.
Next sponsored competition will be the SuperSpar Port Edward two-bowl mixed trips on Wednesday, July 13.
HIBBERDENE
BEZ and Bubbles Bezuidenhout, ably assisted by Jan Venter, won the Tiago’s Open Flame nominated mixed trips last week.
Second place went to Barry and Desiree Krause, with Peter Maggs. Session to Dennis Lewis, Paul Grutter and Pauline Howle.
Next competition is the nominated mixed pairs sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy this Friday (8th).
Four teams played in the KBA trips last weekend. When going to press, no-one had advised of their progress to date.
The club is hosting two sections of the KBA Fours this weekend. Play-offs will be held at Hibberdene on Monday.
MARGATE BC
BOB Smith and Gerry Davey won the Margate Panelbeaters men’s 2-4-2 last Friday, from runners-up Alan Gibson and Cedric Glandfield.
First session to John Sutton and Manny Rodrigues, second session to Ross Ferguson and Ian Hutton.
Next sponsored competition will be the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on Friday, July 15.
Draws for the All-Natal pairs and fours are on the notice board, please check where you are drawn to play.
Quiz evening will be held on Wednesday, July 13.
The date for the AGM has been set as August 11 and the Doug Watson tournament will now be held on November 5 and 6.

MARGATE CC
GAE Gravell has been awarded honorary life member status at Margate Country Club.
Her life, since 1985, has been all about bowls on the South Coast. She played initially at St Michael’s until it closed.
She then moved to MCC in 1998 and has been a loyal member since then.
Gae has always been an excellent bowler and won the women’s singles championship in 2000.
She has played for the district six times between 2003 and 2008 and was a district selector six times.
Gae has served as a district side manager seven times since 2009.
Not only has she been an excellent bowler, but she has also served the club and the district in an administrative capacity as district treasurer for many years.
Rian van Vuuren, Ralph Burls and Cindy Cano won the Manaba Kwik Spar open trips from runners-up Dora Vosloo, Helen Proctor and Georgie McKechnie.
Session prize went to Kobie Stander, Gae Gravell and Clive Edmundson. 50/50 draw was won by Dora Vosloo.
The Hair Shoppe women’s fours was won by Mariaan van Buuren, Leoni Bloom, Mary Warner and Estelle Carter.
Runners-up were Heather Roberts, Dora Vosloo, Chrissie Chancellor and Jo Olivier. Gae Gravell won the raffle.

MUNSTER
BARRY Fowler was the 30 Club winner. Next were Denise de Witt (2nd), Willie Smith (3rd) and Albert van der Lith (4th).
Winner of the mid-week holiday was Janice Golding.
High Rock mixed trips winners were Tommie Dry, Margaret Moakes and Ella Smith.
Runners-up were Dice Graff, Phil Longden and Myra Doubell.
Second session to Martiens Zietsman, Rick Harding and Lizette Greeff. Board to Cliff Moakes.

A FRIENDLY reminder that the next Nomads outing will be at the Village on Sunday, July 17 at 8.30 for 9am.
There will be a bring and braai after the game. All bowlers are welcome to join in with the Nomads.

THE in-house Fruit and Veg 2-4-2 played last Tuesday was won by Hennie Greyling and Jan Bouwer, with Ian Gordon and Annette Strydom in second place.
Mike King and Kitty Cochman took the second session prize.
The Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips was won by Dalene van der Berg, Lyn Coetzer and Nellie Davis.
Runners-up were Michelle Vermeulen, Pam Schutte and Ann-Moria Gibbons.
Maureen Head, Jean Cilliers and Gail Newby took the second session.
Tabs in will be next Friday, July 15 as the green is being used for the KZN Pairs Championships on Saturday, July 16.

THE once-off mixed trips sponsored by The Ear Institute was very well supported and enjoyed by all.
Winners were Tony Johnson, Daphne Hounsell and Marie Pick, from runners-up Geoff Kelleher, Molly Williams and Fanie Strydom.
Second session went to Tammy Gibbons, Charles Murgatroyd and Dee Marsh.
Next competition is the Schooners mixed trips on Monday (11th).

JOHN Sutton and Hazel Barton won the Hopden’s Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2, followed by Alan Tyers and Denise Palframan.
Sessions went to Brian and Nancy Hughes, and Carl Volker and Rosalie Bloom. Don Fowler won the 50/50.
