Fairways, fun and festivities at Port Shepstone CC
There weren't too many dull moments, that's for sure.
THE Sheppie Ladies Festival of Golf was held last week and was very well supported with many women travelling from afar to be part of the fun.
Among the players were Karen Olivant, current South African Ladies Golf Association president, as well as Jane Lind, KZN Ladies Golf Association 2nd vice-president, and Brenda Morgan, Southern Region president.
Northern Region president Joan Solms was also present at the festival this year. Main sponsors were Umthunzi Hotel and Conference, Hibiscus Insurance Brokers and Qualchem.
Thanks were extended to Jenny Hulley, who worked tirelessly in putting the festival together this year.
Overall (and Day Two) winners were Candida Amm, Rita Kinghorn, Jackie van Eeden and Sharon de Lange, with runners-up being Avril Stopforth, Leigh Phillips, Cheryl Manning and Debbie Lee Gaines.
In third place were Robyn Currie, Denise Labuschagne, Cheryl Lindsay and Candice Rowles.
Day One winners were Cecelia Verster, Annie Stoppel, Nicole New and Lassity Skea. Best dressed were Sue Clarke, Colleen Botes, Linda Downie and Jenni Crookes.
In regular news at the club, Anba Pillay, Dawood Kader, Ronnie Naidoo and Ricky Naidoo won last Wednesday’s comp on 115 points.
One point behind were Jesse Verster, Johann van Niekerk, Mark Smith and Mark Deavall.
Friday’s Curnow Garrun business day was won on 101 points by Darshan Pather, Ricky Naidoo, Pete Govender and Santhos Baskali.
In second place on 99 points were Dalene Steyn, Bonita Roos, Ken Marshall and Smittie Stieger.
Saturday’s betterball saw Charles Hulley and Niel Retief take top honours on 45 points, counting out Nick Wattrus and Graham Fabricius.
Two further adrift were Brett Pollington and Graham Dickson.
