Tweni TC bids farewell to popular doctor
Club champs are around the corner and members are urged to enter.
THERE was a fabulous turnout at Umtentweni Tennis Club last week Saturday for Jesus Rodriguez’s farewell.
Forty odd members and friends came to wish him well in Miami, Florida and thanks go to Raj Naganna and his wife, Pam, for organising the function and providing the delicious breyani for supper and chilli bites for snacks.
Several women made salads and desserts which were also scrumptious. Chairman, Foxy Norton, presented Jesus with a bouquet of ‘umthenthe’ reeds to remind him of Umtentweni Tennis Club.
There was also a more serious farewell gift for which Jesus was very grateful. In his speech, he thanked everyone at Tweni Tennis Club for embracing him into the club so readily and said he would really miss all of them.
Thanks also go to Gareth Olivant for super sarmies, cakes and orange segments for tea.
It was great to have so many visitors joining in the tennis as well as members who don’t often make it on Saturdays, including Rob Browne and Gareth.
Members look forward to seeing Sabine Kohut, Justin Hinchliff, Neil Thomas (who gives George van der Merwe a run for his money in the ‘noisiest member’ category!), Quintin Priem, André Parnell and Anton Pretorius back on our courts again soon.
Matt Holmes has returned from Oz and hasn’t lost his ability to chase down shots which most of us don’t even smell.
Members are encouraged to enter the championships by putting their names on the lists at the club.
The champs will now commence on July 30 and entries need to be in by July 23, please.
It is with great sadness that members learnt of Mike Dutton’s death. He was a familiar figure at many of our functions with Chloe, and our sincerest condolences go to her at this sad time.
