HE may be in the C division (for now) but there’s no doubt that young golfer Graham Sole (12) is starting to follow in his father Gavin’s not-very-small footsteps.
In fact some say his swing is much more fluid and that he hits the ball more sweetly.
Already wearing a size nine shoe, he is starting to give the ball a fair crack. It may not be long before he is belting it past Dad.
Not that the Big Fish minds. He’s been saying he needs some decent competition on the coast!
Graham was involved in the four junior tournaments held on the South Coast during the holidays, sponsored by Southern Natal Nomads.
He got off to a sensational start at his home course, Southbroom Golf Club in the Purtell Trophy, carding 45 points to win the C division.
A day later, in the chilly wind at Margate CC in the Terry Mitchell Trophy, he won the C division again, scoring 39 points in difficult conditions.
He couldn’t quite complete the hat-trick at Port Shepstone CC in the Alfred County Champs, finishing second by two points after carding 36 points.
Finally, at the Wild Coast Sun CC he had an off day and finished outside of the top three.
Still, it would appear the bug has bitten and locals can expect to see more good scores coming from him.
In the meantime, his Dad is off to the pro shop to buy new shoes for him.
Byron Coetzee from Cotswold Downs won the three-day aggregate Southern Natal Nomads trophy.

Terry Mitchell Trophy at Margate CC: A div – Byron Coetzee 72. B div – Senayah Moodliar 81. Overall Nett – Matthew Brown 72. C div – Graham Sole 39 points.
Alfred County Champs at Port Shepstone: A div – Byron Coetzee 74. B div – Josh Collin 83. Overall Nett – Andrew Inggs 71. C div – Keagan Horner 38 points.
Wild Coast Sun CC: A div – Byron Coetzee 76 (sudden death play-off), Ettiene Jonck 76. B div – Senayah Moodliar 81. C div – K Maduray 34 points.
