Ultimate test of strength at Lions’ Show
A great amount of camaraderie was shown between the musclemen.
NINE entrants from around the province competed for this year’s annual Lions’ Show South Coast Strongman title. The gruelling two-hour event put stamina, strength and fitness levels to the ultimate test.
The well-supported contest was hosted by Superbodies Gym, Port Shepstone, organised by personal trainer Selvan Naidoo, with the main sponsor being KuluCrete.
Stealing this year’s title was 26-year-old Blake Louwrens from Westville, who is the Under 105Kg South African Strongman champion, having come second overall but first in South Africa at the Arnold’s Classic Africa held in Gauteng this year.
Second placed was Terence Viviers of Matatiele, who attempted to defend his last year’s title. In third, was Theo Joseph from Pinetown. The youngest contestant was 16-year-old Jason de Beer of Pietermaritzburg.
The event kicked off with the deadlift challenge, followed by the tyre flip, farmers’ walk, truck pull and ending with competitors carrying sandbags.
Each competitor’s time was scored for each of the five events, with the overall winner being the one to complete all the tasks in the shortest time.
