Mud, sweat and gears at ‘Tour de Burry’
The miserable weather did nothing to dampen spirits.
OVER 100 riders took part in last Sunday’s South Coast Lions’ Show MTB Classsic, powered by the Burry Stander Foundation. Riders had their work cut out for them as the pumping wind and heavy rain made Sunday’s race a challenge.
The rain and muddy conditions made riding a little rough. The course was a fairly tough one with a lot of climbing and steep descents among rocky outcrops. However, the terrible conditions did not dampen the spirits of the entrants and it turned out to be one of the best mountain bike events.

The vibe, atmosphere and camaraderie was evident among everyone who attended. The Burry Stander Foundation thanks those whose tireless efforts made for a safe and successful event.
Winner of the men’s 45km was Matthew Wilkinson, while Hayley Smith was the winner in the women’s section. In the 25km event, first place went to Lindani Shusha and Mandy Belbin was the woman winner. Proceeds from the event went to the Burry Stander Foundation.
