From the bowling greens: Margate BC dominates
It was quite a tournament for the local club, against some tough opposition.
KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION
AFTER a great week of bowls and four seasons of weather in one day, the All KwaZulu-Natal men’s and women’s pairs and fours tournaments came to an end last Saturday.
Kingfisher players certainly did well in both the pairs and the fours.
Winners of the women’s pairs were Margate Bowling Club’s Ellen Cawker and Jessica Henderson.
Runners-up were Louise Larkin and Glenda Matthews from Stella Park.
Third place went to Margate BC’s Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells, and fourth to Maureen Muller and Tina Barbour from The Bell.
Stella Park took top honours in the men’s pairs with Clinton Inglis and Tommy Potgieter the winners and Dion Audie and Wayne Roberts runners-up.
Third place went to Brendan Ainley and Dave Kay from Maritzburg West and fourth to Marc Rodgers and Duane Thomas from Queensburgh.
The women’s fours were won by Umhlali Country Club’s Jill Hackland, Cheryl Mostert, Moira Hutchinson and Sue Hudson.
Runners-up were Margate BC’s Jessica Henderson, Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Georgie McKecknie and Sharon Scheinberg (reserve).
Third place went to Margate CC’s Kobie Stander, Dora Vosloo, Gae Gravell and Dina van der Walt.
Fourth was snapped up by Port Edward’s Marianne van Buuren, Leoni Both, Mary Warner and Estelle Carter.
The men’s fours was won by Richards Bay’s Vlekkie Visser, Deon Leaity, Danie Schoeman and Pat Stockwell.
Runners-up were Stella Park’s Clinton Inglis, Tommy Potgieter, Dion Audie and Wayne Roberts.
Third and fourth place went to Margate BC’s Shane Nienaber, Dieter Scholz, Ian Hutton and Ross Ferguson, and Ian Kalil, Alan Gibson, Mike Jeffries and Gerry Davey respectively.
Many thanks to the two major sponsors, Hibiscus Retirement Villages and Battlefields Country Lodge. Thanks were also extended to all the host venues and their team of workers in all departments in bringing this tournament to a successful conclusion.
BANNERS REST
CONGRATS to the 2016 club singles champions, Rod and Mary Phelps, and the handicap singles champion, Brian Camps on their successes.
Next sponsored competitions are the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on Sunday, July 31, and the GP Security mixed pairs on Friday, August 5.
HIBBERDENE
JOHN Mett, Dennis Lewis and Jill Whitmore won the Suzuki South Coast sponsored nominated mixed trips last Friday.
Runners-up were André van Niekerk, with Riaan and Desiree van den Berg. Session prize was won by Tabie Jonker, Roger Burwood and Frances Raymond.
The winner of the draw for a cellphone donated by the Rawlins during the All KwaZulu-Natal tournament was Jessica Henderson of Margate BC.
Next competition is the Bourman Group mixed trips this Friday (29th) afternoon.

SPONSORED candlelight bowls was rained off but it didn’t dampen spirits and a great social night was had round the braai in typical Munster fashion. The game will be played at a later date.
High Rock mixed trips is today (28th). Tea duty: Linsey Humphries, Andrew Bromley-Gans and Piet Heunis.
Visitors are always welcome to join in for tabs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1.30 for 2pm.
PORT EDWARD
WINNERS of the recent 7th Heaven mixed trips were Peter Ziervogel, Ally Weir and Stephanie Harries.
Runners-up were Andreas van der Linde and Grant and Lynn Walton. Session prize went to Rod and Mary Phelps and Jaye Russell. Board was won by Val Smith.
RIVERSIDE
THE Food Lover’s Market mixed 2-4-2 is tomorrow (29th) in the morning. Quiz is at 5.30pm.

GREAT bowls was played by John Sutton, Alfred Shusha and Deks Zunker, who won the Tiago’s men’s trips.

Well done all those who took part in the organising and catering for the KBA men’s and women’s tournaments last week.
SOUTHPORT
A BUSY day is looked forward to at Southport this Thursday (28th) when the Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips takes place in the morning and the Dr D’Arcy men’s trips takes place in the afternoon.
The Serene Care mixed trips will be played this Sunday (31st) afternoon.
The club’s AGM will be held this Saturday (30th) at 3pm.
TWENI
TAMMY Gibbons won the club women’s singles title from Madi Linten in a nail-biting final, the score 21-20.
The next competitions will be the Wimpy women’s pairs this Friday (29th) and the South Coast Herald men’s pairs on Tuesday, August 2.
VILLAGE
NEXT sponsored competition is the Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips next Tuesday (2nd), followed by Hibiscus Brokers mixed trips on Thursday, August 11.
