Construction day a major hit
HAVING a good ol’ hack was probably more the focus than the serious stuff during the Construction Industry golf day at Port Shepstone Country Club last Friday.
As always, in an American alliance scramble format, some entertaining golf was produced.
Winners were the All Plant Tool Hire on nett 54, namely Dries Barkhuizen, Nic van Deventer and D’Alton brothers Marius and Gordon.
The South Coast Herald team (Bevis Fairbrother, Bernd Kankowski, Attie Barrington and Jaco Buitendag) was next on 55.25, followed by County Auto on 55.5.
Saturday’s Wozani Berg Gasoline day was won on 93 points by Pete Govender, Abel Yeeranna, Sagren Pillay and Sanjay Singh.
Runners-up were guests Kamal V, Rajen G, Nick and Desen Naidoo, being counted out of first place.
In third spot were Koko Zithumane, Ivan Fabricius, Dhiresh Vallabh and Emmanuel Godongwana on 92 points.
The previous Wednesday’s comp was won by Tony van Niekerk and Greg Hornby on 47 points.
In second place on 46 points were Graham Fabricius and Nick Wattrus, as well as Stuart Betts and Kevin Loring.
Make it your mission to play in church golf day
SOUTHBROOM Golf Club will host the Trafalgar Presbyterian Church golf day this Friday (29th).
The church is based at Imbizane Mission Church in Bushy Vales.
At the time of writing this it was pelting outside, so hopefully the weather clears and the day dawns bright and sunny.
Last Wednesday’s comp was won by Mari Fielden on nett 71, followed by Janet Humphrey on nett 73. and Sandy Fitzgerald on nett 76.
It was a good day for the Fieldens, with Kerry winning the men’s individual Stableford on 41 points.
Olliver Ransome was next on 40 points, with George Haswell in third on 39 points.
Norman Farrell blitzed the field to win the monthly medal on nett 64, with Roger Hissey next on nett 66, tied with Malcolm Greenland.
Saturday’s comp was won by Rene Matthew and Michelle Davies on 45 points, with Allyson Thomas and Irene Schanda next on 40 points, tied with Mari Fielden and Trish Amm.
The men’s comp saw Dries Barkhuizen and Johann Erasmus win on 47 points, followed by Graham Volck and Don Osbourn on 46 points, as well Malcolm Greenland and Colin McKay, also on 46 points.
Grace under pressure for Nassau winner
RAIN has arrived with a vengeance, great for golf courses, gardens and topping up supplies, but a bit dodgy when driving as Keith Duncalf found out when he aqua-planed for a few seconds on the highway on Monday.
“I certainly felt the adrenaline pumping, makes one wonder what are the F1 guys made of,” he commented.
In golf news at Margate Country Club, Grace Fourie won the Nassau Stableford last Tuesday on 41 points.
Front nine winner was Lynn Meek on 20 points, while back nine winner was was Hilary Hendry on 19 points.
Wobblers’ comp was won on 88 points by Roy Nolan, Franz Grobler and Tom Ryan,, three ahead of Gert Bezuidehuit, Jim Finn and André du Plessis.
Thursday’s comp was won by Alan Davies on 40 points, by one from Pierre Malherbe on 39 points.
The Ivan Curlewis Day on Saturday saw Charlie Hartman and Shannon Gottlieb clean up on 48 points, one ahead of Corjan and Alicia Hilt.
Handicap league soon
THE Southern KwaZulu-Natal Handicap League for 2016 starts this Sunday (31st).
It will be played at Margate Country Club, with the hosts playing Selborne Park and Port Shepstone playing Umdoni Park.
Southbroom have a bye, and will host the next round on August 21.
