Paige shines at polocrosse tourney
Most of the polocrosse clubs in KwaZulu-Natal took part in the tournament.
THE Paddock Polocrosse Club and the Rust Bucket Oribi Engine Museum co-hosted another open weekend and polo tournament at the museum in Oribi last weekend.
About 94 polocrosse players, including several internationally recognised names, some from KwaZulu-Natal clubs, played in the tournament.
The museum itself was worth seeing. It houses an amazing private collection of stationary motors, old vehicles and bikes, antique farm implements, assorted machinery – and a rust bucket or two.
As usual, the ‘Bucket Bites Kitchen and Cafe’ was in full swing, providing delicious meals.
The scenic drive to the museum and the traditional country hospitality reserved for visitors to the Oribi area made the trip even more of a treat.
In the A division, championship winners were Nyati A, with Shongweni A winning the handicap division.
B division honours went to Bishopstowe B (championship) and Nyati F (handicap).
This team comprised local player Paige Pretorius and her teammates Paige Vallee and Sarah Cawood.

C division winners were Shongweni C (championship) and Tegwaans (handicap).
In the D division it was Hilton B who won the championship division, and Umvoti A the handicap.
E division winners were Bishopstowe (championship) and Hilton C (handicap).
F division champions were Shongweni F (championship) and Shongweni D (handicap).
Paddock riders did reasonably well overall.
In the B division, Josh Halle, Jens Bunge and Sebastian King finished third.
Paddock B came third in the E division, represented by Sven Bunge, Paige Vallee and Liam Classen.
Paddock C was third in the F division, namely Sebastian King, Olivia King and Nicholas King.
The Bomber Nel Trophy Girls U23 Trick Stick Champion went to Amy Cocker and the Bomber Nel Trophy Boys U19 Trick Stick Champion to Stuart Odell.
Players of the tournament were Amber Pretorius (girls), Kenan Classen and Chad von Beneke (boys), Natalie Maclarty (women) and Travis Timm (men).
Best dressed team was Nyati E (Natalie Maclarty, Amber Pretorius and Jacquie Minnaar). The three are South African U21 teammates.
For the men it was Kargspost A (Steve Gilson, Sam Gilson and Sean Gilson).
The ‘Golden Pony’ was Fuse, owned by Travis Timm.
