From the bowling greens: Pam cooks up a golden win

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION
THE All KZN singles have come and gone … and last weekend saw brilliant bowls all round.
Pam Cole-Cook (Margate BC) won the women’s singles, followed by Sharon Nicoll from Empangeni.
Third was Linda Tolmay of Umhlali CC and fourth Lynne James from Scottburgh.
The men’s winner was Dion Audie of Stella Park. Runner-up was Keith Harcombe (The Bell).
Third place went to Alex Morrison from Park Hill and fourth to Ron Howe from Newcastle.
Grateful thanks to the host clubs and everyone who helped in making the tournament a great success.

Next competition is the Preliminary Masters to be held at The Bell this weekend.
Winners of the 300 Club draw done at the recent council meeting were: R50 – Lesley Lancanster (PSCC), Gill Barker (PSCC), Duncam Randall (The Bell) and Noel Steyn (AMBC).
R100 – Franci Philpott (Margate BC), R200 – Pauline Allen (Scottburgh, R300 – Joan Fowler (Munster), R500 – Martiens Zietsman (Munster).
BANNERS REST
WINNERS of the SuperSpar Port Edward 2-bowl mixed trips played last Wednesday were Brian and Pam Cole-Cook.
Runners-up were Vi Pells, Dan Delaney as well as Frank Foley and Leone Bloem.
Second session went to Aubrey and Penny Hood with Jenny Rennie, and the 50/50 board to Dice Graaff.
Next sponsored competition is the Indulgence Beauty Salon and Peter Bennett open pairs on Wednesday, August 24.
HIBBERDENE
THE monthly nominated mixed trips played last Friday were won by Ollie and Marie Coetzer with Jan Venter.
Second were Albert Munnik, Miriam Seager and Chris Snyman.
Session prize was awarded to Bernard Carpenter, Hennie van Jaarsveld and Lorraine van Heerden.

The competition next Friday is nominated mixed trips sponsored by Suzuki South Coast, starting at 1.30pm.
Very good bowls was witnessed last Saturday. Twelve men played in the KZN singles.

MARGATE BC
CONGRATS to Pam Cole-Cook on winning the KZN singles, a great achievement.
The club had a great haul of medals during the entire tournament (fours, pairs and singles) with a total of two gold, one silver and two bronze in the women’s events, and a bronze in the men’s.
Next sponsored competitions will be the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 to be played this Friday (19th), and the Uvongo Spar open 2-4-2 on Friday, August 26.

TOMMY and Louise Dry, with Willie Smith, won the Mariners Restaurant open trips last Tuesday.

Last Friday’s Krafty Chameleon men’s pairs were won by Leigh Warner and Dave Hume.

High Rock mixed pairs on Thursday, August 25. Tea duty – Steve Golding, Rick Harding and Trish Houbert.
Club AGM on Friday, August 26 at 5pm. Club will close on Saturday, September 3, with sponsored tabs followed by prize-giving, 30 club draw and braai.
NOMADS
A FRIENDLY reminder that the next Nomads outing will be at Southbroom BC this Sunday (21st).
Bring and braai after the game, 8.30am for 9am. All bowlers are welcome to join in with the Nomads.
PORT SHEPSTONE
THE South Coast Herald comp was held last Thursday and won by Peet van Rooyen, Claude Ching, Tony Aveyard and Barry Krause.
Runners-up were Maureen Head, Susan Fourie, Michelle Vermeulen and Annemarie Giblin.
Congrats to Winnie Hess on being selected to play in the women’s preliminary masters tournament.
Winner of the club’s singles champs was Gill Thiele, from Ann Payn.
Men’s singles champ was Eddie Fann, the runner-up was Keith Mills.
In the men’s pairs Mark Smith and Rob McArthur beat Roy Anderson and Alan Jacobson.
In the women’s pairs Sharon Bischoff and Winnie Hess triumphed over Irena Eigenmann and Caroline Harris.
PORT EDWARD
SEBENZA Farms mixed trips’ winners last week were Peter and Sariena Ziervogel, with Ally Weir.
Runners-up were Andreas van der Linde, Mary Walmer and John Keppler.
Session to Rob Lyle, Val Smith and Pat Brand. Board – Roger Humphrey.
Women’s drawn pairs winners were Leoni Booth and Sariena Ziervogel from Estelle Carter and Jeanie West.
Men’s drawn pairs winners were Leigh Warner and Jens Andersen, from John Keppler and Rob Lyle.
Drawn mixed pairs winners were Leoni Booth and Steve Verwey. Runners-up were Myra Doubell and Rob Lyle.
Drawn mixed trips winners were Elbe Snyman, Sariena Ziervogel and Grant Walton.
Runners-up were John Keppler, Rob Lyle and Sera Koekemoer.

SOUTHPORT
THE Fruit & Veg in-house pairs played last Monday was won by Mike King and Kitty Cochman with Alan Wallace and Artur Lopes second and Molly Williams and Ian Gordon third.
Second session prize went to Bob Moroney and Werner Mody.
The South Coast Herald 2-4-2 played last Thursday was won by Keith Mills and Maureen Vorster with Werner Mody and Dalene van der Bergh runners up.
Second session prize went to Mike King and Kitty Cochman.
Congratulations to Kitty on being selected to attend district trials.
Club singles champion Jane Massam proved herself in the KZN singles championships, and she and Cosmos Gumede carry our hopes in the preliminary masters.
THE BELL
MANY thanks to all the markers and umpires who willingly gave up their time to assist the players and the club during the KZN singles tournament held at The Bell on Saturday and Sunday.
The two Joans in the kitchen did a wonderful job, many thanks for all your hard work. Congratulations to Keith Harcombe who was runner-up in this tournament.
Winners of the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours were Maureen Head, Johannie Theron, Barry Krause and Phil Viljoen.
Runners-up were Peet van Rooyen, Louw Vermeulen, Susan Fourie and Charmaine van Deventer.

Summer start time begins on September 1 with tabs in before 1.45pm.

JACK and Dalene van der Berg, with Jan Huygen, won the Schooners Restaurant mixed trips last week Monday.
Runners-up were Keith Mills,Tammy Gibbons and Daphne Hounsell. Second session was taken by Peter and Gerda Clark with Louis Marx.
The next club event is the Wimpy women’s pairs to be played today (18th).
Congratulations to Peter Clark for making it to the play-offs of the All KZN Men’s and Women’s Singles before being eliminated.
VILLAGE
THE Hibiscus Insurance Brokers mixed trips were won by Hein Bester, Annette Payne and Roy Robertson, followed by Betty Bolton, Ali Mitchell and Winston van Greune.
Sessions went to Bill Parfitt, Marie Momple and Manny Piquito, and to Barry Christie, Norman Isherwood and Aileen Ward. Rassie Erasmus won the 50/50.
Hyundai ‘Tabs in’ drawn mixed trips will be played this Saturday (20th) and don’t forget the curry evening at the club this Friday (19th).
Next sponsored competitions are Hopden’s Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2 on Tuesday, August 23, followed by Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips on Tuesday, September 6.
