Sheppie volleyball teams excel
Sheppies golden oldies can be proud of their performances.
TWO teams from Port Shepstone, the Sheppie Legends (men over 40) and the City Girlz (women over 35), defied their ages and their bodies by putting on impressive performances at the Masters’ Volleyball Tournament held at UKZN Westville Sports Centre recently.
The action packed tournament which featured some big names and former SA caps of the distant past, was indeed nostalgic.
The ‘Sheppie Legends’ playing in the over 40 division, stunned big names like Liberte and other Durban big guns to emerge as worthy semi-finalists despite starting as underdogs.
Unfortunately, they could not repeat their quarter-final feats in the knockout stages as they succumbed to a powerful Delfos team which eventually won the tournament undefeated.
Captain of the local side was former national cap Logan Moonsamy and other players who featured prominently were the legendary Dennis Moodley, Deon Pillay, Raymond Moodley, Colin Reddiar, Neven Jestin, Ugen Kistamurthy, Tigs Manisunker, Preggy Moodley with Sumesh Moodley the manager/coach.
City Girls, which hardly ever play as a team, emerged in a respectable third position following some titanic battles against Dolphins, Higher Flyers and Tongaat.
The local senior lasses were represented by Sushilla Kistamurthy, Rosalie Geoffery, Seema Rampersad, Shanice Chatzianestis, Pravashnie Rajagopal, Judy Hufft, Deborah Pakkiri and Devi Govender.
