KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

THANK you to everyone who braved the miserable weather over the weekend to play, mark, umpire and support the Preliminary Masters at The Bell.

Congratulations to the players who showed their tenacity and talent by playing brilliant bowls in the pouring rain on Saturday and then continuing the good form on a beautiful sunny Sunday.

The two men winners were Dumisani Madlala from Umtentweni and Simon Schaaij from Umkomaas.

The women winners were Annatjie Kidd from AMBC and Leoni Booth from Port Edward.

All four players will receive an automatic invitation to The Masters on October 1 and 2.

A huge thank you, once again, to The Bell for their hospitality. Special thanks to the women in the kitchen who worked overtime, the barmen and the greens staff. Your help is much appreciated.

And once again thank you to the technical officials who gave up their weekend to work in not very pleasant weather.

A reminder to all invitees that the Ladies’ District Trials will take place at Margate this weekend. Please bring your own refreshments.

The men’s trials will be held at Hibberdene on Saturday. Dress is club colours or whites.

BANNERS REST

THE Golden Moon Spur mixed trips played last Wednesday was won by Peter Bennett, Gae Gravell and Mike Carter.

Runners-up were Ron Camps, Aubrey Hood and Amorie Schoëler.

Second session went to Steve and Jenny Rennie with John Keppler and the 50/50 board to Dave Hume.

The Warwick drawn mixed fours date has moved to September 21 and the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs will now be played on Sunday, September 11.

The LSC 2-4-2 mixed pairs will take place from September 5 to 9, at venues Banners Rest, Port Edward, Munster and Southbroom.

HIBBERDENE

WINNERS of the nominated mixed trips played last Friday were Ollie and Marie Coetzer with Jan Venter.

Second prize was won by André van Niekerk with Riaan and Desiré van Rensburg.

Session prize was awarded to Tabie and Maureen Jonker with Rentie Stevens. Thank you to sponsor Suzuki South Coast.

The next competition is sponsored by The Cutting Edge and Blue Waters Fun Pub.

MARGATE BC

CONGRATS to Pam Cole-Cook and Shane Nienaber on winning the club singles.

They will represent the club at the Champion of Champions on September 3 and 4.

Congratulations are also extended to Ellen Cawker and Pam Cole-Cook on being chosen to play in the SA Senior Masters.

Winners of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 played last Friday morning were Barbara Brook and Sandy Ferguson.

Runners-up were Ann Waugh and Sandy Jeffrey, with the session going to Franci Philpott and Maureen Roach.

Next sponsored competition is the Uvongo Spar open 2-4-2 this Friday (26th), with boerewors rolls afterwards.

WELL done to the winners of the Engel & Volkers men’s fours, namely Peter Bennet, Brian Cole-Cook, Rod Camps and H Weir.

Second prize went to Bill Brown, Brian Smalberger, Carl Volker and Hans van der Walt.

Third prize went to Jokkie van Buuren, Barry Payne, Rob Lyle and Mike Gover.

On duty next week will be Eileen Lloyd, Jo Olivier and Graham Gold.

MUNSTER

CANDLELIGHT bowls was a great success and the weather held out this time. It was sponsored by Spur, Leisure Hair & Nails and Spar.

Winners were Phil Longden, Lindsey Humphries and Ian Gethen.

Runners-up were Cliff Moakes, Steven Golding and Robin Tayler.

Third were Joan Lindley, Ella Smith, and Megan Hickey, tied with Willie Smith, Eileen van der Lith and Janice Golding.

Most sporting were David Lindley, Leone Bloem and Jean Longden.

This High Rock mixed trips today (25th). Tea duty – Steve Golding, Rick Harding and Trish Houbert.

The club AGM will be held this Friday (26th) at 5 for 5.30pm.

The club will close on Saturday, September 3 after sponsored tabs, followed by prize-giving, 30 Club draw and braai.

NOMADS

A TOTAL of 24 members and eight visitors made for a wonderful turnout for the monthly game, held at Southbroom last Sunday.

Thanks to Southbroom for their hospitality, and a warm welcome to new members Ferro van Greunen and Brent Addison.

First prize went to Kobus Faber, Sheena Absolom and Wynand Bezuidenhout.

Runners-up were Graham Fisher, Rennie Geyer and Dennis Schmidt.

In third were Lenie Geyer, Leonie Bloem and Manny Piquito.

Sportsman’s prize went to Angie Gold, Veronica Enright (from Stilbaai) and Lindsey Humpries.

Nearest to the jack was John Sutton. 50/50 was won by Gerald Enright from Stilbaai.

Spider went to Ralph Burks. Spider money will be donated to South Coast Hospice.

Next outing will be at Margate CC on Sunday, September 11.

PORT EDWARD

THE Realty Port Edward mixed trips last week was fun, until the rain stopped play. Board winner was Joe Ashworth.

In club competition results, Eve Gower won the women’s novice singles from Lynn Walton.

Nominated mixed pairs winners were Jokkie and Marianne van Buuren. Runners-up were Leigh and Mary Warner.

Women’s nominated pairs winners were Leoni Booth and Estelle Carter. Runners-up were Marianne van Buuren and Mary Warner.

Rainbow fun day is this Friday (26th) at 4.30pm.

PORT SHEPSTONE

THERE was good weather for the business day challenge last Friday, sponsored by Umthunzi Hotel and Conference.

Winners were The Bell Boys, namely Duncan Randall, Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Dawie Schlebusch.

In second place were John’s Tree Felling, namely Johnny Guy, John Bloch, Donald Wiid and Kathy Simpson.

In third were the Rough Cutters, namely Richard Dickson, Brett Pollington, Doug Shepherd and Roy Matkovich.

Next one will be held on September 16.

SOUTHPORT

THE Dr D’Arcy sponsored men’s trips played last Thursday was won by Bez Bezuidenhout, Bruce Hoyer and Wayne van Niekerk.

Runners-up were Alan Jacobson, Duncan Randall and Hew Hodgson.

Bob Moroney, Bob Macfarlane and Nellis Hattingh took the second session.

Much-needed rain fell last Saturday and a beautiful day blossomed on the Sunday, allowing a very pleasant annual Fellowship Day to be enjoyed between ourselves and Tweni.

The home club ran out winners by only four shots.

The women’s trips, sponsored by Harbour View SuperSpar is due to be played today (25th).

The Geo Chem mixed trips will be played this Sunday (28th).

TWENI

ASTRID Jackson and Nellie Davies won the Wimpy women’s pairs last week from Marie Coetzer and Barbara Gradwell.

Session prize was taken by Sharon Bischoff and Ann Payn. The next event is the 3rd Avenue mixed fours next Monday (29th), in the morning.

Congratulations to Dumisani Madlala for making his club very proud by winning all his games in the Preliminary Masters tournament last weekend.

He now goes through to the Masters.

VILLAGE

MARTIENS Oliver and Bill Eccles won the Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2, followed by Mike Prinsloo and Hans van der Walt.

Sessions went to Ron Canning and Rennie Geyer and to Hein Bester and Neels Boschoff. Norman Isherwood won the 50/50.

Next sponsored competitions are the Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips on September 6, followed by Hibiscus Insurance Brokers mixed trips on September 8.
