Triple crown for Chantelle …and almost for Colin
After a number of weather-induced delays, the finals were finally completed.
THE finalists in the Umtentweni Tennis Club championships couldn’t have been blessed with a better day last Saturday.
Beautiful sunshine and no wind made for excellent tennis.
Colin Barker had a marathon bout of tennis as he was in all three finals, starting at 11am with the singles and finishing after 5pm in the afternoon with his third match.
Congratulations to all the winners.
Colin won the men’s singles and then teamed up with Raj Naganna in a nail-biting match in the men’s doubles, finally emerging the winners (10-8 in the third set) against Matt Holmes and Gareth Olivant.
However, in the mixed doubles, Dan Dimitriu and Chantelle Donald came from behind to take the title from Colin and Isabeau le Roux.
Chantelle also won the women’s singles and the doubles, with Isabeau.
Thanks to Reel Fincham and Jean Marx for organising this year’s champs.
The ‘Three Musketeers’ are thanked for getting the fire going for the braai afterwards and the salads, garlic bread and ice-cream were thoroughly enjoyed by all who stayed for the braai.
Members are most distressed to hear that Casa Mia’s Alfonso Pita is in hospital and all wish him a speedy recovery.
Belated birthday greetings go to Isabeau le Roux for the 28th – that’s a super new tennis bag you’re sporting, Isabeau. Now you’ll have to play like a pro!
