Jai Hind wins soccer tournament

The seventh Strini Moodley soccer tournament was held at Port Shepstone Senior Primary last week Saturday.

JAI Hind Primary has won the Strini Moodley Junior Soccer Tournament for the first time.

The annual event was played at Port Shepstone Senior Primary last Saturday. This year, 10 schools took part in the 7th edition of the tournament. The teams were divided into two groups of five with the top two going through to the semi-finals.

Jai Hind beat Hlanganani in the first semi-final to set up a final clash with Port Shepstone Senior Primary.

The final was a very close encounter with the teams showing the effects of the many games played earlier, on what turned out to be a very hot day.

Senior Primary took the lead due to an unfortunate own goal by a Jai Hind defender. but with about two minutes of play remaining, Ncebo Biyase of Jai Hind Primary scored a spectacular chipped goal to equalise.

It was a wonderful piece of play and took the match into extra time. There were no further goals and eventually Jai Hind won the final by 3 goals to 1 after a penalty shootout. Ncebo was named the man of the match after his outstanding goal.

The family of Strini Moodley would like to place on record their sincere thanks to all sponsors, family and friends who made the tournament an enormous success.
