From the fairways: ‘Small’ chance of an ace
There was excellent support for the Creston College golf day last Saturday.
THERE was quite a buzz for the Creston College golf day at Port Shepstone Country Club last Saturday.
The weather was kind, if a touch overcast, but the players made it in before the rain later that night.
Highlight of the day was trying to ace the 17th to win a Ford Fiesta, from County Ford.
No one managed it but same came fairly close.
David Small was closest, but not close enough to scare the guys at the Ford dealership!
Other shots were seen flying across to the 11th hole, over the back into the bunker, and hooked across to the ‘island’.
Quite a few hit the big ball first (Mother Earth) and saw the ball take a swim.
At the end of all this, the winners were Ian Marx and Roly Shaw on 55 points.
Runners-up were David Small (better known for his cricket skills) and Brenton Wood on 49 points.
They counted out Stuart Betts and Beryl Olden.
Wednesday’s comp was won on 36 points by Gerald Koch, one ahead of Ian Stewart and Kevin Loring.
Colin Iddon finds top form
THE Wednesday Wobblers’ game at Margate Country Club was won on 86 points by Frank Merrill, Thys Bothma and Derek Egerton.
In second place on 85 points were Alan Davies, Eddie Gommersall and Jim Finn, followed by Otto Mutschler, Jan Richter and André du Plessis on 84 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Dieter Jucker, Piet Pretorius and Cyril Greensmith on 75 points.
Thursday’s game was won by Colin Iddon on 41 points, two ahead of Louie Carreira. In third spot on 36 points was Neil Townsend.
Friday’s business day, sponsored by M Electrical, saw Elmar Basson, Heber de Beer, Jaco van der Wal and Deon Meyer dominate on 102 points.
Runners-up on 96 points were Robert Mavundla, Vusi Maphumulo, Mngobi Godongwane and Koko Zithumane.
Counted out into third place were Anton Kohrmann, Johan Wentzel, Riaan Croucamp, and Dave Higgins.
Nearest the pins, sponsored by Cole’s Kitchens were John Rudling (4th) and Koko Zithumane (11th).
Best dressed team, sponsored by Blue Lagoon, comprised Jane Davies, Maureen Ogilvie, Barbara Jackson and Lexley Lewis.
Saturday’s men’s betterball was won by Frik van Zyl and Johan Erasmus on 47 points, one ahead of JP Pretorius and Theuns Esterhuizen, who counted out Rob Weyer and Graeme Massam.
Chris aces the 4th at Southbroom
CHRIS Miller provided the highlight of the week with a hole-in-one at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday.
Despite this, he wasn’t in the winning team.
That honour went to Stuart Janvier, Paul Lawson, Piet Joubert and a ghost on 98 points, on a countout from John Neaves, Graham Volck, Kerry Fielden and George Wright.
In third spot on 94 points were Tony Westoby, Doug Butcher, Joe Carolan and Rob Williams.
The women’s game was won on 90 points by Karen Asbock, Mary Carolan, Sandy Luus, and Jeanette Peyios.
In second place were Candida Amm, Jean Corfe, Di Morris and Sandy Fitzgerald, followed on 81 points by Janet Humphrey, Meryl Chambers, Jean Cole, and Rene Matthew.
