Play a short course for something different
SOUTHBROOM Golf Club will be hosting a Par 3 Contest this Sunday (25th) from 1.30pm onwards. Entry is R65 for adults and R40 for juniors. Comp fee is R20.
There will be a Kids’ Golf Day on Sunday, October 30 at 2pm. There’ll be a free clinic with Derek James, followed by nine holes of golf.
Cost is R40 for the children, and R95 for parents who want to join.
In regular news, Julie Walker won the women’s medal last Wednesday on nett 69, four ahead of Jean Corfe and Sandy Fitzgerald.
John Lison won the men’s comp on 42 points, with Piet Joubert next on 41. On 38 points were Gordon Moody, Cleve Walker and Dries Barkhuizen.
The Pharaoh Construction Business Day Shoot Out was won by Phiwa Mkhoma, Vusi Maphumulo, Koko Zithumane and Mngobi Godongwane.
Second were Andrew Leckie, Doug Butcher, Geoff Skelton and Barclay Shearer, followed by Johan Neethling, Jaco van der Wal, Craig Jolliffe and Heber de Beer.
In fourth were Russell Mackenzie, Osie Osborne, Malcolm Greenland and Gary Purtell, followed by Graham Fabricius, Nick Wattruss, Paul Geoffery and Keegan Ray.
The women’s Casa Toscana comp last Saturday was won by Julie Walker and Sharon Turnbull-Jackson on 47 points, one ahead of Jean Corfe and Jeanne Powell.
In third on 44 points were Jan Germs and Carol Lamb.
The men’s comp saw John Fox and John Neaves take first place on 46 points, two ahead of Mike Jacquet and Andrew Leckie, as well as Howard Kelly and Brian Richards.
Tour pro Colin Nel shows how it’s done at Sheppie
SUNSHINE Tour pro Colin Nel was the winner of the Stableford comp at Port Shepstone Country Club last Wednesday.
He had 40 points off a +4 handicap. “It could easily have been a lot more points,” said Willem Lindeque, who played in the same game.
Eight points behind were Charles Hulley and Stuart Betts, both on 32 points.
Saturday’s bonus bogey saw on-song Sanjay Singh back on the podium, with partner Yugeshan Naidoo.
They carded +12 to count out Ernst Meyer and Andrew Maree.
Third place went to Rob Calder and Jenny Hulley on +9, with Jesse Verster and Mark Smith next on +8.

Golfers stay afloat at NSRI day
RONNIE Mtshaka and Douglas Sima won the NSRI golf day at Margate Country Club, carding 47 points.
In a tie for second on 46 points were Riaan Croucamp and Johan Wentzel, as well as Hilary Hendry and Margaret Taylor.
Nearest the pins were Brett Wells (2nd), Elvis Khawula (4th), Ronnie Mtshaka (8th), Johan Wentzel (11th) and Sandi Johnston (16th).
Chiappini Boshoff and Margaret Ford won the women’s comp at Margate Country Club. It was a small field, with bad weather threatening.
The Wobblers’ game last Wednesday was rained out.
Thursday’s pro shop game was won by Gary Smith on 47 points, by eight from Piet Ludick and Pierre Malherbe.
Nearest the pins were Chris Nel (4th) and Flip Fourie (11th).
