From the bowling greens: Masters’ tournament coming soon

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION
WELL done to those who have been invited to take part in The 2016 Masters, Tournament on October 1 and 2.
The women are Annetjie Kidd and Liesje de Rosner from AMBC, Daphne Sapsford, Johannie Theron and Maureen Muller from The Bell, Dora Vosloo and Kobie Stander from Margate Country Club, Ellen Cawker and Pam Cole-Cook from Margate Bowling Club, Heather Roberts from Southbroom, Leoni Booth from Port Edward and Marie Coetzer from Hibberdene.
The men are Barry Delvin, Louw Vermeulen and Peet van Rooyen from The Bell, Eddie Fann, Kevin Lancaster, Mark Smith and Roy Anderson from Port Shepstone Country Club, Shane Nienaber and Ross Ferguson from Margate Bowling Club, Ron Weddell from Riverside Sports Club, Dumisani Madlala from Umtentweni and Simon Schaaij from Umkomaas.
Due to the lack of available greens, organisers have had to split the men and women between Southbroom and Margate BC.
The women will be playing at Southbroom all day on Saturday, October 1, and the men at Margate.
On Sunday, October 2, the men will be playing at Southbroom in the morning and then join the women at Margate for lunch and the finals in the afternoon.
The Inter-District sides will be announced at the Masters’ on October 2.
The novice singles will be held this weekend. The men will be playing at Sezela, Southbroom, The Bell and Umtentweni.
The women will be playing at Umtentweni and Margate with the finals for both men and women being played at Margate BC next Monday (26th).
BANNERS REST
WINNERS of the final Indulgence Beauty Salon and Peter Bennett open pairs played last Tuesday were Rod Phelps and Amy Körner.
Runners-up were Dave Hume and John Keppler, and third Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells. The 50/50 board went to Pat Brand.
Final log positions are: Top Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells, second Peter Bennett and Ally Weir and third Dave Hume and John Keppler.
The green is now closed for annual maintenance and a re-opening date will be advised in due course.
Annual general meeting at the Breezeway on Monday, October 17.
MARGATE BC
WINNERS of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 were Kobie Stander and Winnie Hess.
Runners-up were Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor. Session to Angie Gold and Norma Louw.
50/50 board winner was Alison Dinning.
The next sponsored competition will be the Uvongo Spar Open 2-4-2 to be held on Friday afternoon, September 29. Contact Annette Payne or enter your name on the entry list.
The Friday night main draw was won by Lance Marshall and the tabs draw was won my Marge Smith.

NOVICES will be playing their games this weekend, (24th to 26th). Go along and support them.

PORT SHEPSTONE
ON a sunny and breezy Friday afternoon the monthly Business Challenge was held and was again very generously sponsored by Umthunzi Hotel and Conference and South Coast Aesthetics and Dental.
First place went to Coastal Cellular, namely Brian and Jenny Rawlins, Gill Thiele and Kevin Mullen.
Runners-up were Eddie Fann, Howard Frizelle, Len Rossler and Caroline Harris.
Third went to Jane Massam, Don Rossouw, Alan Murphy and Sandy Shepherd.
The toucher prize was won by Kevin Mullen with no less than 10.
Roy Anderson and Caroline Harris won last week’s mixed pairs. Runners-up were Murray and Julie Ross.
The bowls AGM was held recently. The new bowls committee is Len Rossler (president), Judy Anderson (secretary), Murray Ross, Gill Thiele, Dave Price and Tony Johnson.
Bowlers of the year for 2015/2016 were Eddie Fann and Gill Thiele. President’s award went to Murray Ross.
PORT EDWARD
BEST of luck to Barry Payn, Greg Fifield, Jens Andersen and Mike Gower for the Kokstad men’s four’s tournament and to all the novices taking part in the 2016 KBA Novice Singles this weekend.
Representing Port Edward will be Pat Brand, Derek Wicks and Sariena Ziervogel.
Thanks to all the men who assisted Jokkie in spreading the topsoil over the green last week.
Fridays at 4pm the pub will be open for sundowners in the off season.
RIVERSIDE
CONGRATS to Rae and Dave Barber, who placed third in the Lower South Coast Mixed 2-4-2.
Well done to Vi Eltis, Arnold Ossendryver and Dick Thompson, winners of the Chicken and Egg competition, followed by Rae Barber, Jenny Bruce and Dennis Rehbock.

HEATHER Roberts has been selected to play in the Masters’ tournament at Southbroom next weekend. Come and give Heather lots of support.

There will be bowls and free hotdogs for our green closing on Friday, September 30.
This is due to the catering logistics for the Masters’ tournament on the Saturday.
Wolf Security open trips takes place on September 29.
Members are mourning the death of club president Hans Wijtman who died on Wednesday this week.
SOUTHPORT
THE men’s Interclub fours, played last Thursday, was won by Umtentweni from Margate and Hibberdene with the Southport, the hosts, filling last spot.
This week it’s the Dr D’Arcy men’s trips today (22nd) and the Serene Care mixed trips this Sunday (25th).
Annual shutdown for green restoration is scheduled for next month, with October 1 being the final ‘tabs in’ followed by a social activity.
THE BELL
WINNERS of the Fruit and Veg City competition were Peet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie, Rentie Stevens and Miriam Seager.
Runners-up were Keith Harcombe, Charmaine van Deventer, Michelle Vermeulen and Willie Knott.
The drawn prize went to Hew Hodgson, Mada Lindeque, Phil Viljoen and Pam Schutte.
As only one green is available at the moment this was played as mixed fours but will be back to 2-4-2 next month.
TWENI
THE Harbour View SuperSpar mixed pairs was won by Tony Aveyard and Daphne Hounsell.
Second were Dennis Graham and Astrid Jackson. Session to Peter Marsh and Karin Delaney.
The quadrangular Inter-club played at Southport saw The Bell women win, followed by Umtentweni, Hibberdene and Southport.
In the men’s section winners were Umtentweni, followed by Margate, Hibberdene and Southport.
There will be no tabs this Saturday (24th).
Instead, there will be fun bowls this Sunday (25th) starting at 10am followed by a bring and braai.
Dominoes night this Sunday at 6pm. Bring own meat and salad
VILLAGE
MARTIN Electronics men’s 2-4-2 was won by Denzil Massyn and Gary Hess. Hein Bester and Neels Boshoff were runners-up.
Session prizes went to Roy Robertson and Bill Parfitt, together with Dave Garland and Hugh Holland (on a count-out from Alan Tyers and Brian Hughes).
Denzil Massyn also won the 50/50.
The postponed Hyundai in-house drawn mixed trips will now take place on Saturday, October 24. Tabs in by 1.15pm, please.
Next sponsored competition will be Hopdens Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2 next Tuesday. The list is on the board.
