From the bowling greens: Julie and Hans are novice champions

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION
WELL done to the novice singles players for a weekend of really good bowls – very exciting for the future of the district.
The winner of the women’s novice singles was Julie Ross from Port Shepstone. Runner-up was Port Edward’s Sariena Ziervogel; third place went to Sezela’s Linda Suter and fourth to Umtentweni’s Susan Delpech.
The men’s winner was Margate Country Club’s Hans van der Walt. Runner-up was Stefan Helberg from Riverside; third place went to Ian Adam from Sezela and fourth to Ferro van Greunen from Southbroom.
The executive would like to thank the venues that hosted the play-offs on Friday and Saturday and Margate Bowling Club for hosting the semis and finals on Monday.
Thank you to all the markers and umpires as well as the trusty women in the kitchens, greens staff and barmen.
A reminder that the Masters are being played this weekend at Southbroom and Margate.
Women at Southbroom and men at Margate on Saturday and then men at Southbroom and women at Margate on Sunday morning with the finals for both the men and women at Margate on Sunday afternoon.
Please don’t forget that the AGM will be held at Margate BC on Monday, October 3 at 9.30am.
BANNERS REST
WINNERS of the Wild Coast Spur and Port Edward SuperSpar drawn mixed fours played last Wednesday were Barry Payn, Maureen la Grange, Yvonne Fillis and John Meyer. Runners-up were Marianne van Buuren, Rob Lyle, Dice Graaff and Ally Weir. In third were Rod Phelps, Leoni Booth, John Keppler and Jeannie West. The 50/50 board went to Dice Graaff.
Congratulations go to the club drawn mixed pairs winners Dave Hume and Pam Cole-Cook, with runners-up Peter Bennett and Vi Pells.
Entry forms for the KBA men’s and women’s sevens, as well as the Saturday leagues, are on the notice board, with entry closing dates of October 10.
The AGM will be held at the Breezeway on Monday, October 17 at 10am, with the nomination list for next year’s committee also on the notice board.
MARGATE BC
THE next sponsored competition will be the Uvongo Spar Open 2-4-2 to be held this Friday afternoon (30th) in mufti.

The Friday night main draw was won by Oscar Pienaar, who was not present so the prize money goes up this week.
The tabs draw was won by Ann Gibson. The meal this Friday will be beef lasagne and salad.
Get your tickets for the Oktoberfest, to be held on Saturday, October 15, from Yvonne Bausek. Tickets cost R80 person for a meal and live music.
Diarise the ‘Toys for Joy’ evening to be held on Saturday, November 19.
There will be no tabs-in this Saturday and Sunday due to the KBA Masters being held at the club.
Members are encouraged to come and support this tournament and particularly the members of MBC who are taking part.

MUNSTER
NOVICES Ivan van den Bergh, Phil Longden, Anthony Card and Denise de Witt played some very exciting games last weekend in front of many Munster BC supporters.
Anthony went through from his section, lost his second game in very close games, but played like a champion.
The Curry Night held last Friday went well, thank you to all who attended.
The 30 Club draw takes place this Saturday (1st) at 5pm for 5.30pm. Bring and braai, salad to share.
Quiz evening on Friday, October 14 at 5.30pm. R45 including eats. There will be a list on the board, please enter your names for catering purposes.
RIVERSIDE
THE Food Lover’s Market open 2-4-2 is this Friday (30th) at 8.30am.
Ear Institute open 2-bowl pairs is on Friday, October 14 at 1pm.
Tabs in Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1.15pm.
First Thursday of the month is 2-jack bowls, sponsored; second Thursday, 4-3-2-1, sponsored; third Thursday, disability bowls, sponsored.

SOUTHBROOM
IT was with great sadness that members learned of the death of well-liked and much-respected president, Hans Wijtman. Hans had done so much for the club and was always busy sorting out moles, ants, weeds, coaching new bowlers, helping in the bar and generally keeping all in order.
He helped develop the club from a mere 20 members to more than 70 now. He will be greatly missed and sincere condolences go his wife Lorraine and all the family.
Congratulations to Tiago’s men’s trips winners Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Mike Berry. Runners-up were Aubrey Hood, Steve Rennie and John Keppler. First session to Neels Boshoff, Malcolm Milne and Steve Evans. Second session to Brian Hughes, Allan Tyers and Manny Piquito.
Remember that free sausages and rolls will be served after bowls on Friday, after which the green will be closed for spring treatment.
THE BELL
WELL done to all the novices who played in the KBA singles last weekend, with Barry Krause and Phil Viljoen winning their section. Great effort from you all.
Congratulations to Louw Vermeulen, Peet van Rooyen, Barry Delvin, Daphne Sapsford, Johannie Theron and Maureen Muller who have been invited to play in the Kingfisher Masters’ tournament at Southbroom and Margate bowling clubs this weekend.
If you wish to be considered for selection for the men’s and women’s Saturday and Sevens leagues please add your names to the list on the board.
A list is also on the board for members who would like to purchase a bowling diary, the price is not known at present.
Next sponsored competition is the Orca’s mixed trips to be played this Friday (30th).
TWENI
NEXT competition will be the South Coast Herald men’s pairs next Tuesday (4th) morning.
Wimpy women’s pairs was won by Daphne Sapsford and Mada Lindeque, from Tammy Gibbons and Pat Maggs. Second session went to Susan Fourie and Charmaine van Deventer,
The 3rd Avenue fours was won by Tony Johnson, Peter Browning, Derick Celliers and Trevor Main, from Bez Bezuidenhout , Danie and Annetjie Human and Bubbles Bezuidenhout. Session prize went to Peet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie and Desiree and Barry Krause.
Well done to all who played in the KBA novice singles, especially Susan Delpech who reached the semi-finals of the women’s section and Peter Giblin who made the quarter-finals of the men’s.
The ‘Snakes and Ladders’ and bring and braai was enjoyed by all.
VILLAGE
DON’T forget the annual general meeting this afternoon (29th) at 3pm. Please bring a plate of snacks, as there will be a get-together after the meeting.
Winners of the Hyundai Mixed 2-4-2 were Nelia Reed, Ken Habben and Dawn Oehley, with Norman Isherwood, Denise Palframan and Mike Ryan taking second place. Third spot went to Alan Tyers, Chris Allen and Jean Dean. Gill Davies won the lucky draw.
Next sponsored competition will be Hibiscus Retirement Village men’s trips next Tuesday (4th). The Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips will take place on Thursday, October 13. Lists are on the board for both competitions.
