Sharp shooting from top darters

A popular pub game is now a professional sport.

DARTS club members, together with several visitors from the South Coast, delivered outstanding performances at the social darts tournament at theTaj Hotel last Saturday.

The big winners on the evening were players Rakesh Ramdhun (singles category) and Jeewan Bowla and Pravin Sewraj (doubles category).

Families and friends turned out in their numbers to celebrate a special evening of darts. The number of prizes handed out was a sterling reminder to all of how important the sport was to the local community.

One of the organisers of the event, Bupen Prakash, said darts started as a pub game and it’s no surprise because the first dartboards were made from the bottoms of wine barrels. But the game is now played on a professional level in all parts of the world.
