Rugby in crisis, but Margate golfers find form
It's been difficult to watch the Boks of late. Thankfully there is always golf.
SOUTH Africa’s cricket and rugby appear to be at opposite ends of the scales at present.
In case you’ve been living under a stone, the Boks lost by a record score of 57-15 to the All Blacks in Durban last Saturday.
Further, the Proteas have beaten Australia in four successive ODI games.
“Should the coaches be swapped?” suggests Margate Country Club scribe, Keith Duncalf. “Could be interesting.”
Back on the golf course, Chiappini Boshoff won the women’s comp last Tuesday on 39 points.
In a tie for second place on 32 points were Lexley Lewis, Hilary Hendry and Jean Page.
The Wobblers enjoyed a fourball alliance game at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club last Wednesday.
Winners were Piet Pretorius, Derek Egerton, Frank Merrill and Brian Jeffreys on 80 points.
Runners-up were Fred Boshoff, Eddie Gommersall, Jim Finn and Rob Brien on 79 points.
In third were Dave Boyd, Ken Norval, André Henn and Dave Parsons on 75 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Nico van Vuuren, Peter Rogers, Hans Beilhartz and Konnie Konrad on 58 points.
Thursday’s comp was won by Fanie Terblanche on 39 points, by two from Johan Wentzel and by three from Sandi Johnston.
Friday’s business day alliance, sponsored by M Electrical, saw Johan Neethling, Jaco van der Wal, Deon Meyer and Heber de Beer on 96 points.
Runners-up on 94 points were Rob Brien, Dave Boyd, Thys Bothma and Derek Egerton.
Third place went to Jim Finn, Bruce Matthew, Gary Purtell and George Beebe on 92 points.
It was monthly medal last Saturday, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages.
Lowest scores in the A division were recorded by Jeff Sherman on nett 75 and Hermas Venter on nett 76.
However, they were visitors, and the prize went to lowest score by a member, which was Mike Lee on nett 76.
The B division was won by Keith Duncalf on nett 68, with Juan Dixon next on nett 69.
Arthur Ehlert won the C division on 37 points, with Derek Egerton next on 34 points.
The women’s medal was won by Margaret Ford on nett 73, by one from Lizzie Meyer on nett 74, with Hilary Hendry on nett 75.
