Love and golf (not war) at Southbroom mixed classic
The course was lush and green after the recent rain.
SOUTHBROOM’S third ‘major’, the new and increasingly popular Mixed Classic, was won by Errol and Trish Amm last weekend.
They had a strong finish, with 45 points on the second day, to total 81 points and count out Bernie Vorster and Michelle Davies.
Mixed golf has been known to put a strain on even the best of marriages, but it seems like all had a great time, despite some less-than-perfect shots!
There was a log-jam on 79 points, with third place shared by Mark and Linda Surtees, Selwyn and Annabelle Hesom, as well as Ivan Curlewis and Alicia Hilt.
On 78 points were Gerald and Sandy Fitzgerald, as well as Alex and Heather Steppe.
Gordon Odgers and Jetske Kingma had 77 points, one ahead of Derrik and Rene Matthew, as well as Cleve and Julie Walker.
The previous Wednesday’s men’s comp was won by Paul Lawson on 44 points, by four from Malcolm Moorley.
Tied for third on 35 points were Jim DiMambro and Bruce Matthew.
The women’s comp was rained out.
Saturday’s comp was won by Piet Joubert, John Lison, Arthur Lee and ‘Casper’ on 97 points.
Runners-up were Gordon Moody, George Wright, Kerry and Mari Fielden on 94 points.
