A record break … then heart-break for Samantha
It hasn't all gone the top swimmer's way.
SAMANTHA Labuschagne of Blue Ocean Aquatics was selected to represent South Africa at the Senior CANA African championships in Bloemfontein from October 16 to 22.
She swam in the 100m and 50m freestyle individual events and won a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle.
She swam a personal best time in the 50m freestyle and placed fourth overall.
The highlight of the event for Sam was the mixed 100m freestyle relay that won gold.
Unfortunately the other relay that Sam competed in was the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, in which they came first and broke the African record.
However, they were disqualified as one of the swimmers dived in before the touch, most probably the most disappointing point of the meet.
A number of Blue Ocean Aquatics members took part in the Lake Eland Mile last Sunday.
They were Ricardo Carthew, Keytin Vorster, Amber Vorster, Nelzaan Strydom, Milla Drakopoulos, William Carthew, Bruce Rudling, Tayne Rudling, Marnu Koekemoer and Winé Koekemoer.
