THE Wild Coast Sun is hosting a Drift Expo this Saturday, November 5 from 9am to 4pm.
Emcee for the day will be Africa’s loudest white boy, Vic Pardal, keeping the crowds entertained throughout the day.
Drift fans will be entertained by some of the country’s best drifters, including Clare Vale, Paolo Gouveia, Chris Landsberg, Shain Ferreira, Gavin and Brendan Puren, Jean Mare and Joey Govender, to name a few.
Fans can experience what it is like in a drift car on the day with a professional drifter as they drift along the track.
Cost is R50 per adult, free for children under 12, when accompanied by an adult.
The next day, drag racers will do their stuff on the first 60 feet of the Dezzi South Coast Raceway.
The strip has been prepared with track bite for the drivers. Racing starts at 8.30am and goes on all day.
Organised by KZN Drag Racing and Gas Magazine, the event provides the optimal surface for serious competitors to attempt 8-second and 9-second passes, or to break the infamous 10-second barrier.
Organisers promise a racing field that includes new model vehicles racing alongside modified older cars.
“You’ll see cars like an E36 M3 powered by a 1000 horsepower Toyota 2jze, race against a 800 hp Skyline GTR. It will be thrilling!” said Prethiven Naidoo of Gas Magazine.
Interest in the event has spread across the country with requests to race South Africa’s record breaking vehicles at the event.
“Rob Green Motorsport will be bringing its VW Golf 7R that amassed an 11-second flat run in Johannesburg. They’re hoping the track bite and sea level will help them break the 10-second barrier,” said Naidoo.
Tickets cost R90 for adults, under 12 get in free and pensioners pay R45. Grandstand tickets can be purchased at the venue on the day.
