Mboneni and Hayley dominate at Wild Coast MTB race
There was a fantastic response to the event.
THE Wild Coast Sun hosted two highly successful sporting events last weekend.
On the Saturday, the fifth and final race of the South Coast MTB Series took place, while on the Sunday it hosted its first trail run.
Despite the many other sporting events taking place all around the province, the organisers were satisfied with the great turnout of nearly 500 riders and runners.
Mountain bikers particularly enjoyed the stretch on the beach, while the athletes commented that the route was well prepared with just the right degree of difficulty.
Overall winners of the MTB were Mboneni Ngcobo and Hayley Smith.
Top finishers in the trail run were Thembalethu Xesube and Kathleen Goodhead.
Noah Thomas was the lucky winner of a brand new mountain bike valued at R6 500, sponsored by Bobby’s Cycles.
Only one minor injury was reported. It was reassuring to have KZN Private Ambulance and NSRI Port Edward on hand.
After enjoying the morning workout, competitors spent the rest of the day at the Wild Waves Waterpark, thanks to the complimentary access.
