Junior golfers show promise
Developing the next generation is vital to keep the game growing.
THE Port Shepstone Country Club golf academy for youngsters wrapped things up with a competition at the club recently.
Arnold Mentz, a former tour commissioner for the PGA of South Africa, has been overseeing the children’s golfing development.
He has been quite impressed by what he has seen.
“The young kids love coming to learn about the game, they’re getting better and it’s positive. The next step is to take them out onto the course and see how they go,” he said.
Not all the children who have been part of the academy this year were able to play on the day.
The winning girl was Chrystal Carter, who is showing some serious aptitude for the game. Arafe Maharaj took the boys’ first prize.
