Swinging festive season at golf estate

WITH the festive season in full swing, Selborne Golf Estate is lining up all sorts of great activities for residents, members, locals and holidaymakers.

Situated on the magnificent South Coast, Selborne has an immaculate golf course with expansive ocean views adjacent to an indigenous coastal forest that is home to abundant bird and wildlife.

Recent rains have increased the area’s lushness just in time for the holiday season.

The December action started with the Andrew Mentis Golf Day, on December 2 and 3. Forming part of the Nomads Golf Club, a charitable golfing organisation, this annual event is the culmination of fund-raising organised by every member club. Started by Andrew Mentis, himself a founding member of the Nomads, the organisation has raised more than R20-million since its inception in 1967.

The Andrew Mentis Golf Day saw both club members and the general public taking part in a fun golfing event. The money raised was handed over to the selected charities.

“The Andrew Mentis Golf Day gave people the chance to learn more about the Nomads while experiencing the camaraderie that makes this club what it is,” explained Jonathan Malkin, Selborne Golf Estate central manager. He said it had been an entertaining day, with all proceeds going towards a very deserving cause.

This year, Selborne played host for this illustrious golfing event with participants having the added bonus of enjoying the extremely popular five-hole night golf. This event saw golfers navigating the course while searching for their glow-in-the-dark golf balls. This was followed by a fantastic dinner at the clubhouse and music by entertainer, Winston.

Selborne will host its monthly par three challenge, a competition which originated this year. It gives golfers the opportunity to play a quicker round of golf on a familiar course but in a different format.

It takes place on December 23 at 12.30pm and will follow both individual and betterball Stableford formats with the top six best balls counted, per player, out of 12 rounds played.

The following day will be Selborne’s Christmas Eve lunch at the Selborne clubhouse, with seating from noon to 2.30pm. The buffet-style feast will offers guests a sumptuous three-course meal including a range of Christmas meats, salads, vegetables and dessert. Numbers are limited so book early.

Bookings are also open for the New Year’s Eve party at Selborne. There will also be a golf competition on New Year’s Eve in a Texas scramble format.
