KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

THE Bowls SA Inter-district tournament, held at Riverside, Scottburgh, The Bell and Village, was a great success with new acquaintances being made and great fun had by all.

Presented by Bowls SA and sponsored by Perfect Delivery, the tournament’s competitiveness and level of bowls played was of a top standard.

Convener Barbara Brook thanked all the players for their participation throughout the week and congratulated all the winners on their achievements.

There was some hot competition among the teams, but clearly everyone was having an enjoyable day.

In the end there had to be winners – Johannesburg Bowls Association (women’s section) and Boland (men’s section).

The women’s player of the tournament, Rienie Lucas of Gauteng North Bowls.

Gavin Erasmus of Johannesburg Bowls Association was the men’s player of the tournament.

The executive committee also thanked the clubs which had hosted this prestigious event.

KBA’s open and B women’s sides both did the region proud by coming home with bronze medals – two medals in one year is really a fantastic achievement for any district.

BANNERS REST

THE Golden Moon Spur mixed trips played last Wednesday was won by Peter Bennett, Janet Venter and Martiens Zietsman.

Runners-up were Aubrey Hood, Myra Doubell and Dave Pratten.

Second session went to Joe Ashworth, Elbe Snyman and Dice Graaff, who also collected the 50/50 board.

A fund-raiser in support of the HELP Foundation will be held at Banners Rest Bowling Club on Saturday, April 1, from 1.30pm.

HIBBERDENE

WINNERS of the Suzuki South Coast drawn trips were Albert Munnik, Louise Shone and Judy Aiston.

Runners-up were Roger Burwood, Alida Munnik and Riaan van der Berg. Session prize was awarded to Paul Grutter, Jill Whitmore and Joey Venter.

Hennie van Jaarsveld won the men’s handicap league singles from Brian Pirie. Martin Rautenbach beat Riaan van der Berg in the novice singles.

MARGATE BC

WELL done to Jessica Henderson, Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells for their success in achieving bronze in the open Inter-districts, and to Franci Philpott for achieving bronze in the B team.

Winners of the Green Chilli Restaurant were Sharon Scheinberg, Alan Gibson and André Audibert.

A very successful St Patrick’s bowls and braai open fun day was held last Sunday, when over 80 novice and member bowlers took part.

Duty: Office – Ellen Cawker; tea – Sheena Absolom and Vicki de Beer.

MARGATE CC

THE Monday afternoon Spar Shelly Beach open trips was won by Clive Edmundson, Peter Griffiths and Hans van der Walt.

Runners-up were Graham Gold, Sergio Ruperto and Leonie Booth. Session prize went to Martiens and Jo Olivier and Billy Eccles.

The 50/50 draw was won by Billy Brown. The club singles will be held this week.

Invitations for the Halfway Toyota Margate Challenge scheduled for April 20 to 22 will be going out this week.

MUNSTER

MARTIENS Zietsman, Arthur Ronaldson and Leone Bloem won the Mariners Restaurant open trips last week.

Runners-up were Rob Lyle, Gail Botes and Colin Holtzhausen. Second session to Helen Cock, Grant Walton and Linsey Humphries. Board to Derek Wicks.

St Patrick’s Day tournament, sponsored by Spar, was won by Janet Venter, Leone Bloem and Anthony Card.

Runners-up were Tommie and Louise Dry with Rory Lawson. Second session to Don Saunders, Grant and Lyn Walton.

Sponsored tabs this Saturday, followed by 30-Club draw and bring and braai. Twilight bowls next Friday (31st) at 4pm.

PORT EDWARD

WELL done to the winners of the Payn Family Memorial Day, namely George Snyman, Arthur Ronaldson, Leonie Bloem and Marion Hall.

In second place were Dice Graaff, Derek Wicks and Joan Gibbs. Third went to Jokkie van Buuren, Pat Roberts and Stephanie Harries.

In fourth place were Elbè Snyman, Gawie Bosman and Judith Simpson, with fifth going to Don Saunders, Frank Foley, Mike Gower and Phillipa Rowney.

Golden spoon went to Sergio Roberts, Val Smith, Myra Doubell and Sariena Ziervogel.

RIVERSIDE

TRIXI Smith was the manager of the Kingfisher women’s B team which won bronze at the Inter-districts tournament last week.

Hopdens Spar open pairs is today (23rd) at 1.15pm. Food Lover’s mixed 2-4-2 is next Friday (31st).

SOUTHPORT

THE Tweni team of Peter Clark, Johnny Meyer and Peter Giblin just pipped Hibberdene’s team of Norman Aiston, Albert Munnik and Eddie Milne for first prize in the Dr D’Arcy men’s trips last Thursday.

The Bell team of Renzo van Niekerk, Barry Krause and Tony Olivant won second session.

All the hard the work put in by the local team in improving their batting was rewarded when they ran out as winners in the cricket match played against Hibberdene on Sunday.

The Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips will be played today (23rd).

THE BELL

CONGRATULATIONS to the KBA women’s open and B teams on getting bronze in the recent Inter-districts tournament.

The Bell is especially proud of all its members who were chosen to play for KBA in this countrywide competition.

The weather played havoc with the popular Chicken and Egg sponsored tabs-in competition and it will now be played this Sunday (26th), followed by a bring and braai.

TWENI

JAN Huygen, with George and Marie Pick, won the recently played Schooners Restaurant mixed trips.

Runners-up were George Choromanski, Vell Mannion and Werner Mody.

Keith Mills, Tammy Gibbons and Daphne Hounsell took the session prize.

Tammy Gibbons and Daphne Hounsell won the Wimpy women’s pairs from runners-up Barbara Fernihough and Susan van Rooyen. Sharon Bischoff and Ann Payn took the session prize.

George Choromanski and Peter Giblin won the men’s pairs from Peter Clark and Mike Findlay.

In the women’s section, Tammy Gibbons and Marie Pick were the winners with Gerda Clark and Vell Mannion in second place.

VILLAGE

BIG thank you to all who assisted at last week’s Inter-district tournament, on the greens, in the bar and in the kitchen.

Next competition is Hopden’s Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2 on Tuesday, March 28; Food Lover’s mixed trips on April 1.

The in-house Hyundai drawn mixed trips was won by Trevor Anderson, Aubrey Watson and Charlotte van Niekerk, followed by Norman Isherwood, Nelia Reed and Mike Ryan.
