Blue Ocean swimmers take next step up
The youngsters have produced some impressive results of late.
BLUE Ocean Aquatics swimming club recently took part in the South African Junior Nationals and Level 3 events, as well as three regional meets in Durban and Sasolburg respectively.
The club had three swimmers at nationals which is the most it has had at this level.
The level of competition was high, with 707 swimmers entering.
Michelle Kretzschmar, Samantha Labuschagne and Keytin Vorster did very well to maintain their form and swam on their times with Keytin obtaining three personal best times and Samantha making four finals at this event.
Level 3 regionals saw Carla Kretzschmar, Olivia Hulley and Nelzaan Strydom competing for positions in Sasolburg.
Carla made three finals and placed third in the 100m backstroke event.
Olivia Hulley swam at her first Level 3 regionals and qualified for three finals and was able to swim two personal best times.
Level 2 in Sasolburg was competitive and the club had six swimmers compete.
Milla Drakopoulos swam seven events and made finals in all seven events with medal podium wins in all of them.
Milla won gold for 50m, 100m, 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke, plus silver medals for 50m and 100m backstroke and a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley.

Janine Oosthuizen made finals in seven events and brought home three gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke plus two bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and 200m IM events.
Hannah Scott made finals in all eight events entered and secured three silver medals in the 200m IM, 100m and 200m breaststroke.
She had an overall time improvement of 12.56 seconds over the different swims.
Marnu Koekemoer swam in nine events and made finals in all nine events over the three days.
He won two gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle. He also won four silver medals in the 50m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 200m breaststroke events.
Ava-Mae Lilje made finals in all six events she swam.
Ricardo Carthew made finals in five events and was able to take off 20.88 seconds off his 200m backstroke time.
The Sasolburg trip was a great team building experience with the swimmers producing good times, making podium positions and finals and to top it all,enjoying a boat trip down the Vaal river.
Next week, Senior and Youth Nationals start.
Samantha Labuschagne and Michelle Kretzschmar are wished all the best. Level 1 is the highest one can achieve on the South African stage.
