Latest Uvongo parkrun smashes record for attendance

A huge crowd of more than 400 people took part in the popular Saturday morning event.

WITH 421 people of all ages lining up to do the free, timed 5km run or walk last week, the Uvongo parkrun set a new entry record by about 80 entrants.

Uvongo parkrun, which starts at St Michael’s beach, is one of 100 events held throughout South Africa every Saturday morning at 8am. A global phenomenon, parkruns take place in many other countries as well.

About 20 walkers and runners lined up for the first Uvongo event, nearly four years. Since then this event has grown exponentially.

Last week’s record-breaking entry included runners and walkers from all over South Africa.

Anyone can take part in a parkrun but it is best if you go to www.parkrun.co.za to register first. You will then receive your unique barcode. Print it out and produce it at the end of every parkrun event that you enter, anywhere in the world.

Your time and number of runs you have done will be recorded and you will be emailed your results.
