Hook, line and sinker: Fishing ‘quiet’ with rumours of a big black marlin
The diver-shark incident last week has dominated headlines so we'll stick to fishing for this column.
WEATHER has not been great over the past week with cold temperatures and strong south-westerly winds blowing.
There do seem to be a lot of crayfish around though.
Anglers are having a bit of fun with kingies that are being caught early mornings on spoon and iron candy lures.
There have been a few scattered reports of bream in the warmer waters.
A couple of hound sharks were caught recently off Ramsgate and there has been some great shark fishing off Port Edward.
Lots of decent hammers, plus a few blackfin sharks, have been landed.
More fish were lost in that area. Shad have also been present.
Sandspit in Port Shepstone is still producing some cob and a few grunter but overall it’s been a quiet week.

Deep sea
The weather made things almost unfishable, with high winds and big swells from Thursday last week.
However, the fishing is getting better for the ski-boat anglers as large amounts of big game fish have been showing.
A lot of small to average size tuna have been coming out, mostly on plastics and live bait.
It has been heard that a black marlin had been caught last week, one that hit the scale at around the 90kg mark.
Will see if we can confirm this by next week.
