Bullet spoons and screaming reels as perfect weather pleases fishermen
If the currents play the game, fishing could pick up in a big way.
SHELLY Beach Ski-boat Club entered the recent Warnadoone interclub deep sea competition and came second overall.
The team comprised captain PJ Botha, Adrian de la Hunt and Piet Claasen.
KwaZulu-Natal Coastal Anglers Union fished its Postal Round 4 last weekend and a couple of South Coast clubs went down to the Transkei for this.
Sunday was perfect weather but the water was too warm for screaming reels.
A couple of kob and shad were caught.
Rivers are still flowing quite nicely and have brought some colour to the water, and no surprise then that the fishing has started picking up.
Some decent kingies have been coming out for the anglers targeting snoek with their small, bullet spoons.
Kob have been coming out around the mouths on live bait and paddle tails.
Anglers are still getting the odd kob and grunter at Sandspit in Port Shepstone.
Preferred bright coloured paddle tails stand out quite nicely in the dirtier water for kob.
Bronze bream are still on the bite in areas from Shelly Beach to Ramsgate.

There have been some decent catches of skates and hound sharks at Orange Rocks near Uvongo.
Lots of sharks should be around in the discoloured water.
Plenty crayfish are being bagged. Remember your limits anglers.
Snoek are still coming out here and there but definitely not in abundance. Target them early.
Deep sea
Not much has been happening out at sea. Lots of reverse currents and so hardly any fish have been caught.
Deep sea anglers have been trying for couta but no sign of them with the water being discoloured.
A few musselcrackers have been caught and some small yellowfin tuna.
Once the current comes right there will be plenty activity, with game fish.
