Variety spices up car line-up at Sports and Specials breakfast run
There was a lovely mix of cars in the Sports and Specials breakfast run line-up.
AN excellent turnout and some amazing new cars ensured that the April Sports and Specials breakfast run was a great success.
Members of this informal car enthusiast group meet once a month to take their precious cars on an outing. Everyone likes heading inland to the scenic Oribi area so this month’s breakfast run to Leopard Rock Coffee Shop was well supported.
Car owners and passengers enjoyed the usual excellent breakfast on the Leopard Rock deck, one of the South Coast’s most impressive breakfast nooks, as it offers a magnificent view of the Mzimkhulu River valley.
The line-up of cars taking part in the breakfast run was as impressive as this view, but the real head-turner this month was the Jonker family’s 6m-long, 8.2L 1972 V8 Cadillac Eldorado. What makes this glitzy, metallic green prima donna of a car really unique is that it is a front wheel drive model.
Rob and Connie McArthur dusted the cobwebs off their stylish 1981 Mercedes Benz 280-SL Sports and took part in the breakfast run. They enjoyed their first outing with Sports and Specials.

Clive Thompson got off to a flying start in his Birkin 7, a speedy, sporty model that attracted its fair share of attention, along with the many other sports cars, both classic and contemporary, that took part in the run. More sedate but a very classy addition to the April Sports and Specials line-up was Bill Hockings shining, gleaming, perfectly preserved aristocar, his beautiful Rolls Royce.
Sports and Specials is an unconstituted, informal group of car lovers who meet for regular breakfast runs and motoring-related outings. Anyone with any sort of interesting vehicle, whatever its age and style, is welcome to join the group.
