Iconic car club cruises to the South Coast – Gullwing steals the show
Never mind the bike fest, there were also a number of beautiful Mercedes-Benz cars in town.
THE Mercedes-Benz Club South Africa held its National Gathering and Annual General Meeting on the South Coast recently.
It’s the first time the national gathering and AGM have been held at the same time in KwaZulu-Natal.
Not all the members attended, as for some it was just too far to travel, but there was still a very good attendance.
Registration took place at Union Motors in Shelly Beach, with a number of the local staff on hand to welcome the members.
It was great to see all the different models of Mercedes rolling in.

The star of the show was the arrival of a left-hand drive, 3-litre 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, with Connie Oosthuizen of Klerksdorp behind the wheel, Martin Ferreira alongside.
The iconic vehicle, regarded as one of the world’s first ‘super cars’ celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
In its time it was known as the fastest production car for roughly a decade.
Six regions in the country take turns to host this huge event, and this year it was KZN’s chance.
It was clear that they all had a passion for the brand and there was a buzz as friendships were rekindled.
The club members stayed at the Wild Coast Sun Casino Resort. On the Friday they took a drive out to Leopard Rock for lunch.
The next day consisted of some drifting at the Wild Coast, with the official black tie, gala dinner that night, which was attended by Selvin Govender, head of marketing for Mercedes-Benz South Africa.
Sunday was a take-it-at-your-own-pace drive back home.
