‘Sunday, Bloody Sunday’ for Southern KwaZulu-Natal league golfers
It wasn't that happy a long weekend for the local golfers.
TO quote a line in one of U2’s most iconic songs, it was a case of Sunday, Bloody Sunday for the two Southern KwaZulu-Natal league teams recently.
The premier team went down 8,5-3,5 at Umhlali Country Club in a match they might have expected to win.
Van Zyl Greyling provided the only real silver lining on a gloomy result by winning both his foursomes and singles matches.
Gavin Sole halved both his games so was unbeaten, but by his high standards that felt like a loss.
Gavin halved in the foursomes with Gary Purtell, while Van Zyl won his game paired with Matthew Sutherland.

Foursomes were thus lost 2,5-1,5 and the singles was worse, with only Van Zyl winning, and Gavin and Sean Baker getting halves.
Their next game is against log leaders Cotswold Downs at Port Shepstone Country Club on May 21.
Meanwhile, the Central team did battle at Kloof Country Club and lost 7,5-4,5.
The morning foursomes were lost 2,5-1,5 with only Derick Zolyomi and Elvis Khawula getting a win.
Vusi Maphumulo and Wonderboy Nxumalo halved.
In the singles, wins were chalked up by Vusi Maphumulo, Douglas Sima and Elvis Khawula.
They were missing a few of their better players so it was always going to be a tough ask.
Hopefully the players can all find some form and turn things around before the next games on May 21.
San Lameer Country Club is also gearing up to host the South African Country Districts tournament from May 15 to 19.
Graham Fabricius (Port Shepstone CC) and Sean Baker (Margate CC) will be in action for KZN.
