Captain Gerald Fitzgerald’s team whips the opposition at Southbroom

The annual captain versus vice captain contest went both ways.

CAROL Lamb and Irene Schanda with 49 Stableford points, had a comfortable win in last Wednesday’s competition at Southbroom. Jean Corfe and Candida Amm were second on 45 points followed by Julie Walker and Jeanne Powell on 43.

In the men’s section, 49 points turned out to be a popular score. In a three-way tie, Cleve Walker and Peter Volck were declared winners. Graham Volck with George Haswell and Phil Verwey with Dix Vorster shared second spot.

Saturday was the annual captain versus vice captain betterball Stableford competition.

In the women’s section the vice captain’s team won the contest, 4.5 to 2.5. Augi D’ewes and Anette Scholgen won the betterball competition on 45 points on a count out from Lorraine Cook and Eileen Neilson. Karen Asbock and Mary Carolan were third on 43 points.

In the men’s competition, club captain Gerald Fitzgerald and his partner, Bob Clark took first place on 49 points on a count out from Richard Derman and Nic van Deventer. Third place was shared by Chris Miller and his partner, Olliver Ransome and Howard Kelly and Dix Vorster after scoring 48 points.

In the men’s section the contest resulted in a decisive victory for the captain’s team with 13.5, 10 clear of the vice captain’s team.
