High hopes for hockey trio

The team is aiming to improve on last year's result.

THREE members of Port Shepstone Hockey Club will represent the KwaZulu-Natal Country Districts team at the upcoming South African Country Districts tournament in Paarl from July 9 to 16.

The players are Fortunate Mshengu, Kelly Rothman and Portia Ntobela-Malimba. All three are school teachers on the coast, Kelly at Creston College, Portia at Port Shepstone High and Fortunate at Nani Junior Secondary.

Kelly plays in the halves, Fortunate in the links and Portia is a striker. The squad is coached by Adin Bennett, who also teaches at Southcity.

Last year the team finished mid-table but this year they are hoping to have a crack at the top four.

Donovan Rothman, club chairman, said he was very proud of these three players who have done so well and flown the South Coast flag in such style. “We wish them all the best,” he said.
