From the bowling greens: Margate bowlers ‘cut it’ in Hair Shoppe league

BANNERS REST
The Kingfisher Bowling Association Saturday Leagues start this Saturday (11th), with the men’s side at home against Margate, the men’s fours away to Hibberdene and the women’s six also away to both Hibberdene and Port Edward.
Official re-opening of the green will be tabs-in at 10am on Sunday, November 19. Dress mufti, followed by a bring-and-braai.
The opening sponsored competition is the Golden Moon Spur mixed 2-4-2 on Wednesday, November 22.
HIBBERDENE
The very successful inaugural Ray Williams mixed fours competition was won by Roger Burwood, Bernard Carpenter, Sandy Shepherd and Frances Raymond.
Runners-up were Sharolyn Dacey, Rynier van Tonder, Lorraine van Heerden and Nossie Patterson, with the session prize going to Luke Pohl, Johannie Theron, Fay Patterson and Maureen Head.
The Tiago’s mixed trips was won by Paul Grutter, Werner Mody and Joey Venter.
Second were Tabie Jonker, Hana Svoboda, and Nora Swart.
Session to Adam Grobler, Rentie Stevens and Chris Shone.
The Hibberdene Pharmacy nominated mixed trips will take place this Friday (10th) at 2pm.
MARGATE BC
Winning Spur vouchers this week were Rennie Geyer, Eric Chamier and David Taylorson.
Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach’s 2-4-2 was won by Denzil Massyn and Ken Hills, from Gordon Ogilvie and Brian Smalberger.
Session went to Ernie Southward and Hans van der Walt; 50/50 to Gordon Ogilvie.
Social bowls is played every Sunday morning at 9am.
Duties: Office – Lenie Geyer; tea – Heidi Bracegirdle/Jean Bouveire.
MARGATE CC
The very popular Hair Shoppe women’s fours had its final match for the year last Friday and the league ladder winning team was Pam Cole-Cooke’s team of Pam, Dora Vosloo, Vi Pels and Jo Olivier.
The November month’s winners were Marianne van Buuren, Leonie Booth, Mary Warner and Sariena Ziervogel.
Runners-up on the day were Kobie Stander, Sharon Sheinberg, Marie Rogers and Winnie Hess.
The Souties-Boertjies day is set to take place on Saturday, November 18.
MUNSTER
November’s 30-Club draw winners were Rita Zietsman, Albert van der Lith, Eileen van der Lith and Lizette Greef.
30-Club end of season dinner is at Zizi Lodge next week Saturday (18th).
Tea duties for Mariners Restaurant open trips on November 14 are Piet Heunis, Margaret Moakes and Eileen van der Lith.
Christmas lunch is on Sunday, December 10.
NOMADS
A friendly reminder that the last outing for this year will be held at Margate BC this Sunday (12th) at 8.30am.
All members are welcome to join in on the day. There will be a bring and braai after the game.
PORT EDWARD
The green was re-opened for the Wally Brass Memorial Trophy last weekend.
It was won by Barry Payn, Roger Humphrey and Myra Doubell.
Runners-up were Elbe Snyman, Grant Walton, Pat Brand and Tommy Doubell.
Val Smith won the spider, where R320 was collected for the Blind Bowlers’ Association.
Friday evening twilight bowls and refreshments from 4pm, Saturday tabs in at 1.30pm.
Join in for fun bowls this Sunday (12th) for Sharks vs Western Province grudge match, from 1pm.
Bring your bowls and join in for only R10 or just support loudly from the verandah.

The Harbour View SuperSpar monthly trips was won by Johnny Guy, Don Wiid and John Bloch.
Runners-up were Eddie Fann, Howard Frizelle and Caroline Harris.
Session prize went to Geoff Hudson, John Nadauld and Brett Kjonstadt.
SOUTHBROOM
Southbroom’s green reopened after its spring treatment with the Mariner’s Restaurant open fours last Thursday.
Winners were Shane Nienaber, Dieter Scholz, Ian Hutton and Kevin Button.
Runners-up were Hein Bester, Vernon Clements, Trebla Lansdell and Mariette du Preez.
First session went to Anette Payne, Sharon Scheinberg, Herman Scheinberg and Malcolm Milne, with the second session going to Elbe Snyman, Val Smith, Myra Doubell and Lyn Walton.
THE BELL
The winners of the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours were Alan Mandy, Cindy McMurtry, Adele Reader and Angela Moorehouse.
Runners-up were Dave and S Price, Tony Johnson, and Kathy Simpson.
Session prize went to Luke Pohl, Johannie Theron, Barry Krause and Maureen Head.
Next birthday tea will be on Wednesday, November 22.
VILLAGE
The Fruit Lover’s Market selected trips winners were John Sutton, Ilona Landman and Trevor Smith.
Runners-up were Bill Parfitt, Don Fowler and Yvonne Anderson.
Third place went to Dave Garland, Aileen Ward and Dave Chambers.
Hibiscus Retirement men’s trips next Tuesday (14th) and Hibiscus Insurance Brokers mixed trips (16th).
