South Coast serves up tennis treat for seniors
The weather played the game as well, with the heavens only opening after prize-giving.
THE annual KwaZulu-Natal Seniors tennis tournament was played at Uvongo and Douglas Mitchell courts recently.
There were 56 entrants, with the players coming from the Eastern Cape (Umthatha and Lusikisiki), Newcastle, Richards Bay, Himeville and Durban, as well as locals.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs and Leopards were the winning teams in the A section, beating the Cheetahs and Griffons respectively.
In the B section, the Lions and Sharks triumphed over their respective opposition, the Pumas and Stormers.
The winning teams played against each other on Sunday and the Bulldogs and the Lions won their respective sections, beating the Leopards and the Sharks.
Dave Vincent, the president of KZN Seniors Tennis, said that there had been some quality tennis and that the players had enjoyed the evenly matched games.
“The tournament was one of the best I have attended, not only because of the high standard of tennis, but also because of the good entertainment provided to the players by the local band, the Legends, on Saturday night,” he said.
“Even the weather co-operated by starting to rain only after the prize-giving. When the players left, they assured us that they would be back next year and despite the lack of water they had had a fun time.”
The winning players in the A section were Ian Ackerman, Peter Almond, Ronel Botha, Solly Ackerman (captain), Mark Cranston, Rod Hackland and Linda Mead.
Winning the B section were Louis van Zyl, Marian Walters, Gavin Bean, Lynette Shell (captain), Robert Kelly, Nwabisa Mpendu and Simoné Hattingh.
