Summer sizzle at Capital K for Blue Ocean swimmers

The swimmers have gotten the summer season off to a fine start.

Michelle Kretzschmar of Blue Ocean Aquatics club placed 27th overall of the 153 swimmers who took part in the recent 3km Capital K swim at Midmar Dam. She clocked a time of 47:15.

Nelzaan Strydom was ‘hot on her splashes’ in a time of 47:19 and only one position behind in 28th.

They placed ninth and tenth respectively in their age group, 14-30 years old.

Ricardo Carthew was not far behind in a time of 48:47. He came 12th in the men’s 14-30 age group.

Tamara Venter swam home in 56:07 and placed 21st in the women’s 14-30 age group.

A number of swimmers took part in the 1km race.

Milla Drakopoulos (19:28) was tenth in the 13 and under age group.

Mandy Koegelenberg (20:32) was fourth in the her age group and 21st overall.

Others to finish were Winé Koekemoer (23:54), Louise Kretzschmar (29:51), Camina Drakopoulos (44:42) and Sophia Drakopoulos (44:42).

Marnu Koekemoer was the only 13 and under boy from the club to compete and he swam a 19:41. He placed 17th in his age group and 25th overall.

It was a great swim hosted by the Penguins Swimming Club and Blue Ocean is looking to grow its participation next year.
