Herald Fishing: Anglers welcome summer fishing
The brown may not look great but some fish love it.
Summer is here now in full force and both the shore-based and boat-based anglers are rejoicing in the fast-paced action that is expected this time of year. Many large fish have been hooked in the past week; some have been unstoppable, so make sure you double-check your knots and that you and your tackle is up to scratch.

The South Coast has been the only section that is consistently producing decent edible fish. Anglers have reported good catches of kob at most of the river mouths. These fish have fallen for paddletails and rapalas more than they have for bait.
Other species coming out have included shad (ranging from the usual small tiddlers to 4kg giants), pompano, bronze bream and garrick. The south has also produced its fair share of inedibles for the anglers targeting them.
The sandies have been wild at certain deep-water points and the reports have been that they are eating redeye baits with a lot more vigour than anything else.
There have been a few dorado around but no fireworks yet. There’s a lovely colour line forming off the Mzimkhulu river mouth.
The brown water just needs to push inshore and it will be lovely for those dorado. Protea Banks hasn’t been at its best with all the reverse current lately, with only a few tuna being caught on lures and poppers.
There is however been a lot of bait around such as mackerel and massbunker, which should bring a lot of game fish around.
